It was a few days later, and Draco and Hermione had hardly been able to see each other for fear their friends would find out. Hermione decided the library was too open and public a place to see each other, and Draco agreed that it was too risky to go anywhere near the dungeons.

Draco was walking through the halls on the way to potions one morning. The hall was empty, the only sound being his footsteps. Suddenly there was another set of footsteps, and they quickened in pace, drawing nearer with every step. Draco turned, recognising the sound of that one pair of shoes, and to find the owner of them standing there behind him.

"Hermione!" He exclaimed, smiling widely. He wrapped his arms around her, and she pulled him closer.

"Oh, Draco, I've missed your hugs," Hermione whispers in his ear. She hugs him tighter.

He smiles and pulls back a bit to see her face. "Well I'm here now, sweetie."

Hermione's smile was bigger than Draco had ever seen it, and he brought his face down to hers, his pale lips touched her rosy pink ones. Hermione’s hand ran up Draco’s back, her fingers intertwined with his hair. He wrapped his arms around her waist and leaned his back against the wall, pulling her with him.

Malfoy!”

Draco pushed Hermione away from him, startled. They both looked down the hall. A tall figure in long black robes with black greasy hair was striding toward them at an alarming rate.

“And Miss Granger!” Snape said furiously. He turned to Draco. “Do you, have any idea how bad this looks! A Slytherin loitering in the halls with a mudblood! You should be ashamed of yourself Malfoy.

“And you!” Snape snapped, turning on Hermione now. “Detention in my office, every night for the rest of the week, and if I catch you doing anything of the sort of what I just witnessed again, I’ll take points from Gryffindor! Now get to class!”

Hermione nodded, scared. She took one last fearful glance at Draco before running off up the hall.

Snape spun back to Malfoy, seething. “You,” he poked Draco in the chest, “if I ever catch you doing anything with that girl again, or with any Gryffindor, you shall be severely punished! Do you understand me?” Draco’s gaze faltered, and he dropped his head. “LOOK AT ME! Do you understand me?” Snape roared.

“Y-y-yes sir! Yes Professor, I understand.”

“Good. Now get to class!”

That was the last time Draco and Hermione spoke to each other for the next two weeks.
