The London night was especially cold as rain poured down in sheets, drenching the two figures running towards an underpass. One of them seemed to be arguing with the other, and suddenly the first and taller figure stopped, allowing the second to catch up.
"Enough, Cabius," the first one gritted.
"But-"
"No, I have made my decision, and I shall go through with the plan."
"I urge you to reconsider-"
"Reconsider what?!" He snapped, whipping around towards his equal. "Let this world go to hell, rather than find the cure to this madness?!"
"She is not ready," the boy hissed under his breath. "You know so, and I know so."
They glared at each other, daring to make the next move.
"Lares," he whispered, eyes desperate for understanding. The boy's features soften as he looked down.
"She's all we've got if we're going to live."
