Piper Yin had never been one for wanting attention. She definitely didn't see the appeal of popularity, had never wanted any part of it. Her "friends" were outsiders: drama, choir, and band geeks mostly, while she didn't have a single artistic bone in her body.

To say the truth, she didn't know the names of half the people she hung out with, but she did know who was in perfect view from her tree: Kieran James Anderson.

Right now he was sitting under a maple tree with a beautiful girl in his lap. Piper had never seen her there before, but that was usual; Kieran always had different girls all over him.

This one had long golden blonde hair cascading down her back, but Kieran didn't seem to notice. He was looking off into the distance, and, after a moment, Piper realized to her dismay that he was staring directly at her.

He began to stand up, basically shoving the girl out of the way. She started shouting something at him as he walked away, but he completely ignored her.

Piper clumsily struggled to her feet. She wasn't exactly sure what was happening, so she decided to just stand there awkwardly.

Soon, Kieran was in front of her, looking down at her curiously through bright green eyes. His tan skin gleaned in the afternoon sun, and she pushed her thick, wavy black hair behind her ear.

He cocked his head to the side and spoke the first sentence she ever heard him say to her: "You stare at me every day."

Piper blanched. She hadn't expected him to say anything to her. She'd thought maybe he would shoulder past her on his way to the bathroom or direct a rude comment at one of the people at her tree.

He laughed. "There's no point in denying it," he said, "I just want to know why."

Piper shrugged. She couldn't take it any longer. She quickly turned and ran away in the opposite direction.

💔💔💔

Kieran had never met anyone so beautiful in his life. He had always been the kind of guy to play around with a girl for a couple weeks and then dump her before he had to even think about love.

Love. The word made him sick at the mere thought. But he was feeling a different kind of sick now. He could feel butterflies rising in his stomach as he watched her dark hair bounce against her back as she ran away.

He hadn't meant to frighten her. Something about this girl drew him to her like the tide to the beach. She definitely wasn't his type, but looking into her dark eyes made him forget he even had a "type". He just felt... light.

So light that he didn't realize at first that he had no idea what her name was. He cursed himself, not silently, for being so stupid and began debating whether or not he should run after her.

He started to to walk towards the direction she went when he felt a cool hand on his shoulder.

💔💔💔

Piper sat in the bathroom for what felt like eternity, sulking. Unsurprisingly, nobody followed in there, which made her feel her like crying even more.

She had never felt so embarrassed in her life.

She could hear someone walking into the bathroom and stood up quickly. The stall swung open. Her muscles tightened and she braced herself for the worst.

Of course, it wasn't anyone she knew. She had no idea who she had been expecting.

The girl standing in the doorway cocked her hip. "Excuse me?"
