I slit my wrist and disguised my wince, as the blood of my hand dropped onto the coals of Dauntless. Goodbye Abgnegation.
Walking to my seat, I took a spot beside a good looking Erudite and a shrubby Candor. I was the only Abnegation transfer so far. As the names ticked on, my heart started to drop as I realized the title of a "Stiff" would follow me everywhere. One more stiff. I whispered to myself. No such luck.
The ceremony ended and a wave of cheers spread across the Dauntless. I couldn't hide my smile as I followed them down the street and onto the train. This is where I belonged.
Whilst on the train, a tall girl with blonde hair and an even tan sat next to me.
"I'm Alice.", she dimpled.
"Becca.", I responded. "Pleasure to meet you."
I mentally cursed myself for being so polite. Abnegation sinks into you after a while.
"Who's the hot Erudite?", Alice asked me.
I shrugged. "Hey, what's your name?"
The boy turned, stunned. "Noah."
"Rebecca.", I smiled. "This is Alice."
He smiled, but his mouth still hung slightly open.
"What? Did I grow a head or something?", I asked.
"No I just- aren't you a stiff?"
I laughed. "Doesn't mean I can't speak for myself. I grew up with 3 brothers."
He smiled, but the colour quickly drained from his face. "We're here."
I looked out the window and sure enough, the train started slowing down.
"When is it going to stop?", Alice asked.
A boy in all black looked at us from across the carriage. "It isn't.", he chuckled.
My eyes widened as heaps of children in black clothing leapt from the train. Thinking about Toby doing this years ago brought a smile to my lips. He's terrified of heights.
"Get ready.", Noah said.
I grabbed a hold of the railing, closed my eyes and jumped. My feet hit the ground hard, but I rolled over to evenly distribute the weight.
When Alice had finally jumped, we followed the dauntless born across the roof, to where a familiar boy was impatiently tapping his foot.
Connor.
His eyes locked onto mine and smiled as I darted forward into his arms.
"I missed you.", I breathed.
"Me too, Becca. Me too."
I turned red and let go of him when I saw other people staring at us.
A Candor with red hair squinted between the two of us before blurting, "Why do you guys look so..."
"Similar?", Connor and I smirked in sync.
"Um- yeah.", the candor breathed.
I felt my ears go red as everyone quieted to listen between the stiff's resemblance to a dauntless leader.
"She's my sister.", Connor said smacking the back of my head.
I glared at him and rubbed the spot on my head, as he chuckled and took his spot on the ledge.
"I'm Connor. Down there, is where everything begins."
"But we just jumped off a train.", a boy with white hair protested.
"Congratulations.", Connor said sarcastically.
I fought back a laugh as the Candor boy sulked back into the crowd.
"If you really want to be a Dauntless, you'll have to just jump and hope for the best."
"What's down there?", I asked.
"Just because you're my sister doesn't mean you get any special treatment.", Connor remarked.
I rolled my eyes and resisted the urge to stick my tongue out at him like we used to do when we were both Abnegation. People would probably laugh at me if I did that here.
"I wasn't asking for special treatment.", I muttered.
"Alright, who's up first?"
I shrugged my shoulders and raised my hand softly.
"I'm serious, Rebecca."
"So am I, Connor.", I hissed.
Connor smirked and raised his hands in surrender. "Lead the way."
I took a step on the ledge overlooking a 7 story drop into a black hole.
"Toby probably cried.", I laughed.
"I heard some rumours that he wet his pants.", Connor smirked.
We smiled thinking about how much he hated heights. I missed him.
"Toby? As in Tobias? As in Tobias Eaton?", a dark skinned Dauntless born asked.
"Ya, I guess.", I shrugged.
"Damn, I'd kill to be related to that guy.", he whispered more to himself than to the crowd.
"Don't hold your breath.", Connor remarked. "Any day now would be nice, Becca."
I stuck my tongue out at him and some of the initiates laughed, but not at me, with me. I smiled thinking about how the next year was going to be insane.
Raising my index finger to my head, I saluted my brother off before free falling into the open air. The wind rolled on my back and I felt as light as a feather, before I felt a net collide with my back beneath me. I caught myself in a heap and began to slowly laugh until a broad shouldered figure, guided me down to the ground.
"You've gotta be kidding me.", he smiled before engulfing me in a hug.
"Toby. Toby, I need air.", I said pretending I wasn't as glad as I was to see him.
"First jumper? You are such a loser.", he ruffled my air and I huffed in annoyance.
"Connor told me you wet your pants the first time you jumped."
"Ya well, that's why Connor's not in Candor.", Toby told me rolling his eyes.
I felt a toned arm wrap around my head and bring me into another chest.
"Hey Zach.", I laughed.
"I missed your ugly face.", he said ruffling my hair.
"Goddam it, can you all stop touching my hair!", I proclaimed brushing it back with my fingers.
Toby and Zach reached for my hair at the same time before I darted off to wait by the wall.
"First jumper, Becca!"
