My phone begins to ring its daily alarm, signalling the arrival of morning. I awoke slowly and quickly got annoyed by the blaring of city noise. Finally, I'm getting out of here.
"SAMMY!" My sister, Cole, yelled at me from the other room. She came to my door, "Are you done packing?" I shook my head sleepily. Cole started to pick the old white paint off of the bland door. "Look, Sammy. I'm worried about you."
That had sparked my interest, "Why?" I sat up on the bed. Cole smiled and chirped, "Oh nothing." She looked back at me and said, "Now come on, get dressed Sammy."
I shook my head in amusement. Really, what the hell. One minute she is anxious and jumpy and then the next, she is beaming. I walked over to my dresser and grabbed an Asking Alexandria T-shirt and black skinny jeans. It's a shame that I have to leave her along with my life. After all she has been through with Dakota, she still supports me with moving to the middle of the forest. I've always hated city life and I love animals so I guess she thought that it would be good for me.
If only she could come along, but she promised Jake to watch the apartment for him. He has always been a cool guy. It's kinda sad that he was an orphan though..."Wow," I say aloud to myself, "That got off topic."
I walked over to my closet and grabbed a suitcase (one of the kinds that has wheels and a handle, in case you were wondering). I headed back to the dresser and opened the top drawer. It was filled with pictures of my mother, sister, and brother.I picked up a picture frame with detailed designs of dragons that had once contained a picture of my mum. She died in a fire two years ago and there was no way to stop it, the house was engulfed in a monstrous flame before the police could do anything.
Tears threatened to burn my eyes when I set down mum and picked up a locket that had a picture of Jake and I in it. He was homeless then he got kidnapped and we found him in a basement left for dead.He was anorexic (A/N: not his fault and the meaning of anorexia is not getting enough nutrients in your body to stay healthy, don't believe me, look it up) and wrapped in a bloody bundle of curtains.
To make the image clear, it was his own blood and judging by how much was on the curtains, he should've died long before we found him. Jake is traumatized by the event and he hasn't told anyone about all of it because as soon he begins, the voices start.
I put the locket in the front pocket of my suitcase and opened the second drawer and cleared the contents (band shirts) then moved on to the next and did the same.Next was the bathroom which I grabbed the necessities from, toothbrush, tooth paste, deodorant, and hence forth.
A meow interrupted my packing. I turned and saw my cat, Max, crawl onto my bed and lay down, attempting to sleep. Oh my god, he is SO cute. Sorry brain but I love cats WAY more than packing.I walked over to Max and pounced onto the bed, in turn, made him awake suddenly. "Hey kitty." Max just meowed in response and curled up next to me. I started petting him and he purred madly.
Cole called up the stairs, "IF YOU KEEP PLAYING WITH THAT DAMN CAT, WE WILL NEVER GET OUT OF HERE! BESIDES, YOU CAN SNUGGLE WIH HIM IN THE CAR, COME ON, LETS GO!"
I rolled off the bed and went to my closet again. In the corner was a medium sized cat carrier which I brought over to the bed and set it on my knee. I coaxed Max to get in and he happily obliged with the knowledge of having freedom in the car.I just don't want to be carrying him in my arms and trip then leading up to him running away through the crazy streets of the city. I went back to the bathroom and got my suitcase and headed towards the door.
Turning back to the room, I realized how much this dear old friend will be missed.
I used to read stories in the nook which had a great view of the city by a vast window. My mother's favourite book was Alice In Wonderland, it was sitting prettily on my book case where it belonged. The memories breathed their goodbyes as I quietly shut the door, cat and luggage in tow.
Making my way down stairs, Cole came running up and growled, "Come on." I ran down the steps saying, "Ok, ok then."<Time skip to car ride>
Max jumped into my lap, thankful to be out of the cage. He started purring again as I was petting him. "Hey Cole, do you wanna hear a poem I made yesterday." She looked into the back seat, "Yeah, I wanna hear what that big brain of yours made up."
"Ok the name of the poem is Away." I cleared my throat."Write me away into a story
Of once forsaken lands
Of dragons and fairies
Of happily ever after
Of 'I feel no pain'
Even ever after
Has to stop
In the world of crueltyAs the sun kisses the horizon
As the moon rakes up the light
As monsters come to play
Fairies and dragons
Are fiction
Once moreSo write me away
Into a dream
Of happiness and fun
Of monsters and sheep
Of all fake pain
Even fake
Has to take a rest
In a world
Of the unforgivenAs the sun claws its way up
As the moon falls into a slumber
As monsters return to dreams
Of once our hearts
Fiction and hope
Become dream
Once moreSo write me away
Into reality
Of lies
Of pain
Of suffering
Even reality will go on
Ahead of the worldAs the sun burns bright
As the moon defeats the light
As monsters turn damned
Of a world for beauty
Turned tragic
Reality turns back
So write me away"There was a long pause, even Max stopped purring, as if he listening to the poem as well. Her voice trembled, "Dammit Sammy. You need to get that published." She started quivering.
"Hey, do you need me to drive?" She grabbed the steering wheel harder, "Nah, I'm good." She stifled back tears.
I leaned my head onto the window listening to the hum of the car. Max rubbed his head into my abdomen and purred once more. I played with his ears and quickly fell asleep.
