I awoke unusually early, I tried to go back to sleep, but I couldn't. So I got dressed, today I was wearing a white dress, black leggings, and a jean jacket. I wore my hair down. I always dressed nice going to school, I wanted to feel pretty even though I really wasn't. I walked out of the bathroom and into the kitchen, I didn't feel like making anything, so I just got some leftover pizza. As I ate, I was thinking about what another crappy day I was going to have. It's 6:30, I sighed. Another hour until I can finally leave. Then I remembered a book that I've been meaning to finish, The Kite Runner. It's a very graphic book about war, it's a great escape sometimes. I read the last few chapters, I looked at the time. 7:45, come on! Can't time move faster? I sighed again, my father walked out in an old Social Distortion shirt with holes in the back, along with some long pajama pants. "Oh hey Catherine, why up so early?" He asked while rubbing his tired eyes, "I couldn't go back to sleep" I said. He grunted and got a glass of water, "I'm going back to bed, have a nice day at school honey" he said, then kissed me on the head. "I will thanks".
He slowly walked back in his room and shut the door, it's 8:19. Forget it! I'm leaving, I grabbed my backpack and keys, and then headed out the door. As I drove on the dirt road, I came to the bridge that led outside of my neighborhood, I've always thought about driving off the bridge, but I would never do that, knowing how cowardly I was. Soon, I came to my school and found a decent parking spot. I got out of my car and walked inside and went to my locker. There I found Lace, my best friend. "Hey there partner in crime!" She said while playfully punching me in the shoulder. "Hi" I said quietly.
"Thank the lord Jesus that your here! It gets really boring sometimes" Lace said as she swung her short wavy blonde hair. I laughed, "Like I'll be any entertainment"
"Are you kidding me?" She said while raising an eyebrow "oh and hey! Have you heard that Green Day's new album is out? Can you please come with me to the record store after school? Please Cath!"
"I can't, I have to go grocery shopping" I said while slightly annoyed, I never really liked when someone begged me to do something.
When I first met Lace in sixth grade, I thought of her as a complete band geek, and she was, she still is today. I used to love classical music, but until Lace showed me the grunge stuff, like Nirvana, Green Day, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, etc. I absolutely adored the music, it opened up a whole new world for me. Lace was the lead singer and guitarist, my other best friend Andrew the bass player, and me the drums in our band called "Solar Motive", we started this last year. Andrew wanted to call the band something really inappropriate, I recall Lace bonking him on the head. I remembered that day very clearly, it was the most happiest days of my life. Now We were on the verge of finishing our first album, we got many calls from radio stations. Lace, Andrew, and I were so pumped when we finally found a station that seemed like a good one. Our interview was coming up in a couple weeks.
"Fine, I'll ask Andrew" Lace said.
"That's okay with me" I said while opening up my locker.
"Can you believe our interview is coming up so soon? I'm so exited!" She said while jumping up and down.
"Yeah I can't either, it's on a Saturday right?"
"Yup! I gotta get to class, see ya later Cath!"
"Bye"
I forgot to mention one thing, Andrew and Lace were dating. Gosh it's awful. The two of your best friends dating? I was getting grossed out just thinking about it. I mean Andrew is a weird nerd and Lace is one of the prettiest and most popular girls in school. You wouldn't expect those two species to get together. I went upstairs to my first hour, math. Not only is it a horrible subject, but it's even more horrible when you have it every morning, every day. I sat down in the back of the classroom, got my notebook, homework, and pencil out. Once the teacher started talking, I started going off into my own little world, blocking any voices, any little noises, just everything. Until it was silent.
"Hello there, Catherine" a familiar woman's voice came to my head. It was such a warm, but deadly sounding tone she had. "I don't want to talk to you!" I whispered angrily, I then snapped back into reality.
"Ms. O'Neal, you might want to pay attention so you can correct your homework" My teacher, Mr. Revere said irritated. I froze and squeaked "Yes sir" then frantically grabbed a pen and followed along. Mr. Revere sighed and then continued. An hour later, I went to my next class, then the next, the one after that, and then the one after that, until it was finally lunch. I walked by myself to the cafeteria, where I sat alone with my hot lunch, Andrew and Lace are probably in a teachers room. As I ate my sloppy spaghetti, two girls named Claire and Rachel came to my table, sitting across from me, gossiping, not even talking to me. Typical. Soon, lunch was over, and In a flash the whole day. I drove home to lay down on my sweet, comfortable bed.
"Catherine, did you go grocery shopping?" My father asked.
"Oh shit! I forgot!" I shouted. My father heaved a heavy sigh, "It's okay, I'll go right now, you lay down and rest"
"You sure?"
"Yeah" he said when I heard the slam of the door. I turned to my side, then fell asleep.
