I was resisting the urge to slam Brian's head into his cereal bowl because of his disgusting chewing and slurping when Laney came bursting into the room. Thankful for the distraction, I turn my gaze to her excited frame.
"We got invited to a Coolmore party!" She exclaimed, basically vibrating where she stood.
Brian let out an excited whoop and I glared in his direction.
The Coolmores are a large family in this town, they basically own it. I like thinking of them as the mob family of our area. But instead of running drugs and guns, they own every club in a 100 mile radius. I'd always wanted to be invited to one of their parties, but we were a bunch of high school hooligans. There is no way the Coolmores knew about us.
I scoffed, pushing my chair away from the table.
"This is why I'm awake during the daytime? For you to gaggle over the Coolmores?" I brushed by Laney and she followed close behind me.
"La this is our in. I mean we graduated this year, we can't keep helping junior parties survive anymore. And if this is like what you're going to do forever, then you might as well get in with the people who have money."
I stopped and turned to see her resting her hands on her hips and looking at me pointedly.
"Laney are you trying to say I have no ambition?" I scowl and take a step back towards her, we rarely have arguments but this was a sensitive subject for me because I really wasn't sure what I wanted to to with my life.
She sighed and came towards me, I stiffened when she rested her hand on my arm.
"No LaLa, we just all have been working and you're just kind of slumming it, high school parties are over babe. Either get in with the big dogs or get a job." She gave me an encouraging squeeze and I shrugged her off. Heading to my room for a nap.
