Prologue:

It was a cold  and damp morning, rain drizzled down the window panes, making the classrooms a gloomy shade of gray. Lola wrote random words on her paper, still paying attention somehow. This was how it normally went for Lola. She always seemed to be in her own little world, yet when teacher's asked her questions she would get the answers right away. Señora Miller was droning on about Spanish traditions and food, writing everything up on the board. The kids next to her were passing notes, the girls across the room were talking about a party they were going to on the weekend, the boys on the other side were talking about things that Lola never wanted to hear and the funny thing was:  Lola's gaze had never drifted away from her notebook, but she payed so much attention to the sounds, she knew exactly what was going on.

Class went on silently for a moment, as they all filled out sheets the teacher had handed them. Lola waited silently, already done, waiting for her teacher to "unexpectedly" call on her, like she did every class. But just as she began to talk again, the door swung open really fast and left a wide eyed boy behind it in the doorway.

"Sorry, I-I didn't mean to do that--uh, is this spanish?" He stuttered out. A few giggles echoed through the classroom.

Señora turned to face him, "Yes, this is Spanish. You're Hayden Johnson, am I right?" The boy nodded.

"Alright, Nice to see you. You were supposed to arrive tomorrow, so I don't have much prepared, but better early than late." She walked over to the cabinet, taking out various papers before handing them to him and pointed out a seat. Without hesitation, he hurried to his seat.

"Everyone let's give a warm Welcome to Hayden." She said as an echo of barely coherent shouts like "Hi, Hayden!", "Call me sometime!!", and "Nice to meet you!" ran through the classroom. Hayden simply gave a nod, his bright green eyes glued to his desk.

Soon, the attention turned away from Hayden, aside from a few glances here and there, and Señora continued teaching. Lola glanced over at Hayden to see him furiously trying to write down what the teacher was saying, and She had to admit it was rather funny. He was writing as though his life depended on it. Unintentionally, She let a giggle escape her lips. Hayden's glance snapped up and she quickly looked away, hoping that no one else had noticed, but none of this had escaped Señora Miller. She turned to look at Lola.

"Is there a joke you'd like to share with the class, Lola?"

Lola felt her cheeks turn a deep red, "No, uh, sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt."

"Alright. Now that all of the explaining is over, let's get on with our project. There will be partners for this event and think its only fair that since they seem to get along so well, we'll start  with Lola and Hayden as our first group." Lola gulped, knowing there was no way out of this. Señora knew how bad Lola  was with boys: her words  would just end up as gibberish, so this was officially her punishment.Hesitantly she got up, ignoring the burning stares she was  getting from the other girls in the class.

Lola sat down quietly next to the boy and they sat in silence until Señora had finished listing the names.

As the talking picked up around the room, she turned to him, "Hello,"

"Hello," he replied. And that's when it all started.
