The study was always dark or dim never bright.

It was kept the way Master Yenli Cid liked it. 

A man of powerful abilities that transcend far beyond that of mortals. He was Benjamin Reddrum' Teacher into the mystical arts of magic. 

Yenli Cid was a great and powerful magi respected by kings of all the lands. He had saved the lands numerous times, he had won wars singlehandedly and slayed mythical creatures that would make anyone's jaw drop if explained in detail. Dragons, behemoths, trolls and even demon folk where obliterated by Master Yenli Cid within minutes. 

However, to poor Benjamin Reddrum he was a strict and cruel teacher who would punish him for any failures or misbehaviour. 

At this point in time Benjamin Reddrum was condemned to the study room without food and forced to read the one thousand tome book. Benjamin was very frustrated and wanted to stop right here and leave, but two things stopped him. 

One his master Yenli Cid would not let him, he would be confined in a powerful magic that would torture him beyond sanity. 

The second reason was that above all Ben wanted to be strong, stronger than his master, stronger than everyone. Curiosity also filled Benjamin and the more he studied magic, the more he became curious of what he could one day become.

Only to do that he had to obey and learn from his powerful teacher.
Ben reflected on how he came to study under his strict master.

He was originally from a small snowy town in the north. A cold sorrowful place that had no future for poor Ben Red. It was a day like no other when Ben met a merchant and used his only coin to purchase a map said to be home to the most powerful magi in all the lands. Ben remembered the decent down the mountains. He nearly died a handful of times. A punctured lung, a deep cut on his wrist and frost bite could of killed him.

Ben assumed that his determination, his curiosity and search for power kept him alive until he finally made his way to Yenli Cid's magic study. 

Starved, bleeding and nearly frozen to death Yenli just looked at his body and left. He cared not for broken things. That was when the merchant came and mended to Bens body. He explained that he was sent to gather potential student for the master. Out of the five people selected by the merchant. Only Ben Reddrum made it to Yenli Cid's grand study. 

Now that Ben Reddrum remembered, it had been a long time since he had seen that student who was disguised as the merchant.

Time quickly passed and Ben was getting bored with the tome, it was about some boring saviour who wrote about his journey to becoming one with magic. It sounded like a big elaborate fairy tale to Ben.
Ben placed the tome down and got up to stretch his hands and legs. The study was a very mysterious place, always silent, always dim, never bright. 

Most days Ben would do mundane tasks for Yenli such as scrubbing the floors of the endless staircase. Sometimes Yenli would just stand and watch as poor Ben Red scrubbed floors until his knees bleed and his nose only smelled the stench of his sweat. The pain of scrubbing floors for hours and the laughs of his sadistic master.
