Third Person POV

Brooklyn was walking on the beach to her post. She had long chestnut hair, hazel eyes, and a light tan. She reached the life guard tower and climbed the ladder. She sat in the chair as her eyes watched their surroundings searching for danger, any danger. It's was a very peaceful day just helping a child or two swim, nothing to big. Brooklyn was walking to her house, only half a mile away from the beach where she worked. As she was walking home she saw a glowing light pulsating in the water. Her curiosity lead her to the waters edge, kneeling on the darkened sands she reached her hand into the water. She could still see the light but she couldn't find where it was coming from. She had her uniform under her clothes. She dived in the water leaving her stuff on the shore. Under the water she searched coming up for air every few minutes. She saw a cave where the light was coming from, she swam in and the water became the shallow and she could breathe the air she had just left on shore. She carefully walked on the cave floor, dimly lit by torches. She followed the light that she saw when she was on shore. She reached an end of the cave to see a engraving on the cave wall. " What even is this?!" Said Brooklyn as she ran her hand across the hieroglyphics. She placed her hand in the middle of the circle, for the coral reef emblem to glow and give off a magenta light. Lifting her hand quickly, Brooke backed away tripping on the bumpy cave floor. A flash of light brightened the cave, and a person's figure emerged from the light as Brooke's sight faded away to darkness. Finally her sight faded to see her body halfway underneath the water. Panicking, her hand reached to the back of her head. Drawing her hand back into eyesight, drops of blood rolled to the edge of her hand to drip into the water. A dark shadow swam in front of Brooke. A girl appearing from the water staring at Brooke. " Who are you?" Brooke said panicking as she swam backwards.

Brooklyn's POV
" Please don't be frightened your hurt and I want to help you. " said a girl swimming behind me. I cringed as I felt a wet piece of seaweed being wrapped around my head. " What were you doing down here anyway? Oh, my name is Skylar. What's yours?" Skyler asked me. " I'm Brooke. And we'll I saw a glowing light coming from this cave and I went to explore, and..." I was interrupted by a gasp. " Wait you saw this cave glowing? This can't be happening, this means you must be her." Skyler said swimming back and forth. " I'm who? What are you talking about Skyler? " I asked as I grabbed her shoulders and looked in her eyes. She swam over to the edge of the pool and climbed onto the land above where she swam. From her torso down looked scaly and looked like a fish. Then it came to me, she was a mermaid. I was talking to a mermaid. A MERMAID. OMG! She sat on the rocky floor until her tail disappeared reveling a pair of legs. She stood up a brushed off her bathing suit. Brushing the wall she examined it carefully. " What are you doing Skylar?" I asked staring at the wall. " A fair young girl shall claim her place as the strongest of them all. The coral cave shall glow when the chosen one is near, curiosity is strong but she shows no fear. Exploring her way, shall make her stay. Claim her crown for she is the best, unlike the rest." Skyler proclaimed reading off the wall. She pointed her finger at me then at the wall, " You are her l." Skyler said kneeling near the waters edge and she stared at me. I saw a light glow from the pool where I floated. My legs shined transforming in to a purple to pick ombré. Sky stared in wonder at what just happened. " We can finally win the war. We, we found her. I mean you Brooke, you are her the cave has chosen you. This prophecy as been written since the dawn of time. And I was the one who found you. The elders are going to jump for joy." Skylar gasped. " The elders  " she dived into the water and grabbed my hand. " Where are we going?" I asked a Skylar pulled me under water. " Once the elders know that you have been found we can end the war." Said Skylar happily as her blue green ombré tail pushed her through the water. " War? What war?" I asked pausing and stoping in mid swim. " For centuries we have been at war with the hydras. Yes I know what your thinking " don't they live in the lake of Lerna back in Ancient Greece." Well yes but they traveled around the world and concurred many mermaid tribes. Many were killed but we are a war since they killed our first leader. They attacked sending us into war with them. But you can stop it. The war will stop, the Hydras will die, and we will have our home back." I stayed quite as she talked about the Hydras. Apparently the Hydra is a Serpentine water spirit. It is the offspring of the Typhon and the Echidna. It is originally from Greece, where it stayed in the Lake of Lerna.  Whenever you chop one head off another grows back or multiples. It is also called Lernaean Hydra. It's so poisonous that in one tiny breath could kill a person, causing them to die in the greatest torment. Sounds pretty scary to me. I looked up to see a golden shining city. Atlantis I thought. " Welcome to the lost city of Atlantis." Skylar said watching me look around. " Humans have been looking for this place for ton and thousands of years. And yet I'm the first to see it. It... It's so beautiful. " I said looking around in awe. " Follow me the elders are this way. " Skylar swam off. Quickly I followed her, I could feel the power that I didn't feel as a human. The water dancing through my hair, the coral growing on the buildings. It was much more beautiful than the human world itself.  We reached the second tallest building in the city and stopped. " Is this it?" I asked
