You've Got The Glow chapter 6

CHAPTER 6:

Kayla's POV

"Get off your ass and go talk to the kid already. I'm tired of you moping around." Kyle complained.

I didn't take my eyes off the television as I replied, "There's nothing to talk about."

"Stop being an over dramatic girl about everything!"

This is when I started to lose my patience. Kyle has been hounding me for three days to go talk to Jake. He has yet to apologize to me for lying to me and messing up my date plans. Plus, he didn't even trust me. Yeah, what a best friend he was.

"You know what Kyle?" I got up from the couch and clenched my hands into fists at my sides. "How would you feel if your best friend lied to you, didn't trust you, and messed with your love life. Would you forgive them right away? No you wouldn't! So I suggest you shut your goddamn mouth before I shut it for you."

He stood there speechless, and then started to laugh. Yes, he started laughing. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

"Kayla, that was down right the funniest thing I've heard you say. Your threat is so empty and you look constipated."

My face started to heat up and turned red with anger and embarrassment. "Fine Kyle, you want me to make up with Jake? I'll go make up with him so you shut your mouth for once."

"That's all I ask." He left the living room and went back up stairs. Off to Jake's house it is.

I knocked on his front door and took a step back. A girl with long dark hair opened the door. She looked like she was around my age, maybe a little younger.

"Hi, is Jake home?" I asked.

A look of realization was plastered across her face. "You must be the girl he's moping around over," She extended her hand out to me, "I'm Jenny, Jake's younger sister."

I shook her hand, "Kayla."

"Well Kayla, Jake is upstairs in his room. Third door on the right." Jenny opened the door all the way to allow me access to the Miller house. "Nice meeting you."

"You too." I responded while going up to Jake's room. They both looked so similar to each other, it was easy to tell that they were siblings.

When I got to Jake's room I knocked on the door and then walked in. "Oh, I'm sorry I-"

"Don't worry about it," Jake said. His lips turned into a confused frown when he saw it was me, "What are you doing here?"

The fact that Jake was shirtless made this situation much more awkward and distracting. "Um, I wanted to know why you did it."

"Did what?" He asked picking put a shirt and slipping it on. Thank god.

My gaze went back up to his eyes instead or his abs. "Cancelled my date, lied to me, and why you don't trust me."

"All very good questions." He said.

After a moment of silence I spoke again, "So are you gonna answer them, or are we just gonna ignore each other some more? I mean it's your choice, whatever you want."

"In that case, I want us to not ignore each other," Jake took a seat on his bed and patted down next to him for me to join him. He waited until I sat down before he spoke again, "But I cannot answer your questions."

I crossed my arms over my chest, "And why would that be?"

"Our friendship would be better off if I didn't answer them."

"Well if you don't answer them then there wont be a friendship."

"And if I do there wont be either. Damn I can't win today can I?" Jake put his head in his hands.

I wanted things to be better. I liked Jake, I really did, but this isn't working out. "Well I guess this is goodbye."

We both stood up and I gave him a hug. My back tingled as he rubbed circles on it. I pulled away and walked out of his room ready to cry.

"Kayla, wait!"

I turned around so fast I'm surprised I didn't get whiplash.

"I'm sorry, really I am. Why isn't that enough?"

My heart felt like it was breaking. Why isn't it enough? Why can't I just forgive him? We both don't want it to end this way. "I'm not sure why." I said quietly.

"Does that mean you accept my apology?" He had a huge grin on his face. I swear he looked like a kid on Christmas morning.

I tapped my chin. "Well.. I mean I guess I could--"

Before I could even give a definite yes I was picked up from the ground and spun around. I let out a shriek which was soon replaced by a giggle.

"I didn't even say yes yet." Anybody could tell by the smile on my face that I was going to say yes anyways.

"Your answer was good enough for me." Jake said.

Glancing at the hall clock I saw it was almost 6:00 o' clock. "I should probably go home for dinner."

"Alright, I'll see you tomorrow."

"Who said I was hanging out with you tomorrow?" I asked.

"I did." He said with a wink.

I rolled my eyes, "Bye Jake."

I walked in to see Kyle and my Mom sitting down eating dinner.

"Hello Kayla, so nice of you to join us." Kyle said with a smirk.

"Shut up." I said taking a seat on the end of the dinning room table.

My Mom put down her fork and looked over at me. "Where were you?"

"She was making out with her boyfriend." Kyle said causing me to choke on my water.

My face turned beat red, "No I wasn't. I was at a friends house."

My Mom's face lit up at the mention of me having a friend. "You made a friend? That's great honey! What's their name?"

"Jake." I replied taking a forkful of spaghetti.

"When do I get to meet him? Is he cute?"

I looked over at Kyle who had a huge smirk on his face, little prick. "I don't know. He's our neighbor." I avoided her 'is he cute question' because of the fact Kyle was there listening intently.

"Maybe tonight I'll go over and introduce myself to his Mom! All three of us can go over there and meet the family."

Tonight is going to be one hell of a night. The Parker and the Miller family will get to meet, how fun.
