Picture above is Simon :)
Genetic mutation is hard. I mean, you would think with the right formula and machinery it would be simple, right? Replace the genome of all the atoms with a different genome. Sounds easy enough, right? It's not. So many damn complications, do you know how hard it is to retract genomes from every atom? Very. Did you know if the host isn't in the specific health conditions, the genomes put into the body will be rejected? Every single cell fighting another one, until the host turns into molecular putty. There's one fork in the road. I'm so damn close, so damn close to a breakthrough. Back to the drawing board, I suppose.
"Hey, you hungry?" Simon asks, knocking on the door to the lab. "I got your favorite... Chinese." He states, cheekily.
I sigh, rubbing my head. All this is giving me a head ache. "I would, really, but I can't. I'm so damn close, I just need to make some... Minor alterations. I need to focus, so if it's still there in an hour or two, I'll give it a go. "
He shrugs, adjusting his glasses on his face. "Your loss. You need to get your head out of a test tube before you get stuck, really Cam. You should save me something to work on. You always do all the work, you know, I am your lab partner."
"Ha!" I laugh. "More like lab rat." I say, laughing to myself. "Now get out of here and get some sleep. I'll see you tomorrow."
Simon runs a hand through his auburn brown hair, scratching the back of his head as he does so. "You sure?" He asks. "It's almost 12:30AM and a pretty lady like you shouldn't be walking home that late. You could get robbed. Or worse. Mugged."
"You do realize those two words are synonyms, right?" Sometimes I wonder how he got into MIT with his below average skill set in science... And pretty much everything else, but I always remember, he's an expert engineer. Give him an idea and 2 hours in a workshop and he will have anything you need done and fully functional with no further instruction. He and I are a team. I'm the crazy scientist, and he's bob the builder.
"I do now, but nonetheless, I shall help my little Albert-a Einstein-a in any way she needs me, until the sun rises we shall-" Simon starts but I cut him off.
"Okay first off, my name is not and will never be 'Alberta'. Secondly, in no way shape or form will you asking me what I'm doing every 5 seconds aid me in any way. Thirdly, I ran out of things to say but..." I halt in my verbal tracks when Simon gives me his puppy dog eyes. I sigh, knowing those always got to me. "Fine, but be quiet, do as I say, and put a lab coat on. And leave the food on the other side of the room. I don't want to get distracted by it."
Simons face lit up like a Christmas tree. "Yay!" He squealed like a kid in a candy store, skipping over to the lab coats, and clicking his feet on the way there. "I don't know what you're so happy about, this isn't going to be fun," I state, bluntly, looking at my equation again.
He comes back and grabs it, studying it even more intensely than I ever had. He smiles, looking at me, "Oh Cammy, Cammy, Cammy. What a simple mistake you have made. You set it to scale down the qualities of someone. If you really want to make it work, you have to scale them up. In hypothesis the strongest ability you have would be amplified."
I was only surprised for a second before I hugged him so tightly I almost squeezed the air out of him. "Oh my god you're so right! I must have been staring at it so long I couldn't see straight anymore." I laugh happily letting him go. "So if we were to be injected with it, my brain would be amplified as would your ability to burp louder than the Big Bang?"
Simon laughed jumping on a lab table. "That would be sick! I would be burp man! Defender of the bodily gasses," he says, putting fists on his hips.
I laugh pulling at his jeans by his ankle. "Get down from there before you fall down," I smirk, completely amused by his sudden outburst.
As he jumps down, I state, "Now since you demolished my only problem, we can go to simulations and you can start building the machine and we are two days away from getting an A+ with out Human+ serum." I grab his hand, dragging him toward the door. "Time for a celebration! Grab the Chinese food, we're going back home." His face perks up staring at me wide eyed, his cheeks blushing. "To binge watch an entire season of the Walking Dead before the sun rises!" I squeal, Simon looking a bit displeased with my last statement.
Simon shook his head as he hung up his lab coat and locked up the lab, grabbing the Chinese food. He looked at me, smiling softly and he let me out first, holding the door open for me as he did. "M'lady," he says, gesturing for me to exit first. "Why thank you kind sir," I say, putting a hand to my chest. "Chivalry isn't dead is it?" I ask, turning back towards Simon.
"It's never dead, not for you."
A/N
Hey guys. This is my first story, so be easy on me.
I hope you like it, and don't worry, this is just the beginning. It will get super intense, so if you don't minds a little exposition, stick around for the kidnapping 🙊
I've said too much already.
See ya next chapter
