Here's a fanfic I threw together so I hope you enjoy! :^)
I stated this in the description but I'll state it again. This has remained untouched for a good year or two, but I am back to finish it! 2019 :)

(Y/n)s Pov

The memories of my parents seemed to fade each day. The only remnant I possessed from them was a delicate pendant; once a bright blue, but as the years passed it turned into a musty dark blue. I couldn't recall many memories from my past. Who I was, where I was from, my family.

I couldn't fathom what was taking place before my eyes. Things were blurry, but once I regained consciousness I was dashing away from an unknown beast in an uninhibited forest. Perhaps a figure of my mind? Though this wasn't the first time I've seen such creatures. They've followed me from my past to present, their low murmurs and voices haunting me at night.

They're terrifying.

My parents died years ago. Since then I lived in fear of the unknown. I lived in oblivion.

No...

I've always lived in fear, I've always been forced into hiding.
My foundation is constructed in fear and quick wits. Without it, how could I survive? I slowly began to realize that these creatures were real. This wasn't apart of my imagination.

If I could make an accurate descriptor...I would say a fairly large creature. It has piecing red eyes and a large stature with bold wings that could make any human tremble.

My sprinting fell into a brisk jog as I made it to a clearing. The sun began to set and I looked out on the city as all of their lights flickered on. I decided to keep moving to the luminous city. As it got darker, the crowd started to thin and the air grew still.

There's not a lot of people out right now...

I thought to myself. This thought distracted me and I lost my sense of direction. I tripped over a tree root poking out of the earth and realized I was plummeting down a small hill into a body of water.

I cried for help, and in the nick of time I felt a blow to my back and I was kicked across to the other side of the stream. Though my back hurt, I was grateful to have made it. I turned around to see the creature.

"Finally, I thought I'd never catch up to you. You may be small, but you're quicker than most. Your father would have been proud, haha." He croaked with his raspy voice.
"H-how do you know him...Who are you?" I stammered.

"I've come to warn you."
I eyed him suspiciously and waited for him to finish.
"I don't advise you to return home. All you need to know is, they're back"

Panic overcame me.
"How do you know this?" I asked.
He started to fumble with a black notebook and sighed.

"Look, kid. I don't have much time to explain. Your father told me to look after you if something happened to him."
I sat up on the hill and the monster stood besides me.

"Was my father like you?" My brain began to fill with many questions
The monster nodded. "Mhm, his name was Galileo. He was a real interesting fellow...oh, by the way. He wanted me to give this to you once you were old enough

The monster handed me a black notebook.  I read the words scrawled across the front aloud.
"Death...note? A notebook to kill?"
I looked at him confusedly.
"Bright one, aren't you?" He said sarcastically.

I opened the book and was shocked to see all the rules, not to mention the names written in it.
"Why would my dad want me to kill innocent people?"

The monster stood up and sighed.
"You'll figure it out, It's only for emergencies. Kid, I have to go."
I jumped back up.
"W-wait! What's your name?"

"Ryuk." He hastily replied. He spread his wings, leapt into the air and vanished into the sunset. Once again, I was alone. I decided on heading back to the city, heeding Ryuk's warning. I began to walk, but the thought took over my mind. I stopped.

Those men...

I turned around and sprinted in a new direction, past cherry blossoms and the lake. It was a beautiful spot many didn't come to. I gazed into the sapphire sky sprinkled with stars and prayed everything would be okay. I climbed a branch of the tree and sat on it.

'If what Ryuk said was true...I'll have nowhere else to go.'

Suddenly, my attention was quickly averted elsewhere.

Tmp, tmp, tmp

I heard footsteps.

I spun around to find a small boy roughly around my age. I froze on spot and our eyes soon met. Pale skin, grey eyes and jet black hair. He looked ghostly, yet his smile gave him a rosy glow.
"Huh? Hey!" He exclaimed. He stepped closer to me and I leaned back into another branch.

"Stay away from me!" I squealed. The boy refused to listen and climbed up to where I was. "What are you doing up here? The sun went down!" He said cheerfully. "I-" Before I could answer, an older mans voice called out.

"Ryuzaki!"

The boy jumped for a moment but then answered the man.
"One minute!"

He turned his attention to me again.
"Be here tomorrow morning."
I nodded and watched him smile.
"Wait a second..."
He tugged on my sleeve and we both fell to the ground.

"Ah!" I yelped. An older man found stepped forward and the boy dragged me towards him.

"Can she stay with us? She doesn't have a family!" The boy pleaded.
The man frowned. "Ryuzaki..."
The boy pouted and hugged me.
"Please let her stay!"
The man finally gave in and chuckled.

"I see no harm in you having a friend.
Tell me young lady, what's your name?"
I felt constricted between the boys arms and sweat fell down my face.
"(Y/n)." I whispered. He gently shook my hand and smiled.
"Nice to meet you (Y/n). I am Watari. I run an orphanage for talented young children like Ryuzaki. He doesn't have many friends, but would you like to stay?"

I nodded and the man picked us both up and began walking to a black car and set us down in the backseat. I looked at the name that danced above 'Watari's' head.

Quillish Wammy.
Watari's an alias?

I decided not to worry over it and I closed my eyes to try and get some sleep.

I didn't do the math or anything and I didn't really decide their age...but L and the main character are children in this part of the story. (It'd be pretty funny if they weren't lmaoo)
New note, 2019- I just finished editing the first chapter :)
