RW Chapter Twenty

Chapter Twenty

"Mello!" I gasp out, my voice quivering. I grab his arm. "What the hell do you think you're about to do!?" He looks at me. I notice his other hand is occupied with a chocolate bar. He can't leave a damn bar behind, even if it means he'd be better off without it.

"I have no choice. I won't let you die, you'll be fine." He says in maybe an attempt to reassure me. I don't believe him. He presses a button and I hear an explosion, too close for comfort. I cover my ears and scream in shock.

"It's a bomb!" I hiss quietly. "Are you suicidal?! Is it your intention to bring me down with you?!"

"Relax, jeez. You're not going to die." He snaps. He turns back to the screen and stares at it intently. He taps a button which activates the microphone to the rest of the base. "I've blown up the two entrances. There's no escape for you now. It was only a warning, but I'm going to blow up the whole building next. I can see all your movements through monitors. If you don't want me to blow you up then do as I say."

"First order, I want you to destroy the cameras on your helmets." Mello orders, snapping off a bit of chocolate once he's finished. I look at the screen to see the men smash the cameras on the ground.

"Throw all your weapons over the railings." We watch as the men obey Mello's orders, tossing their guns over the railings. "One of you hold up the Death Note, the rest back away. Good, walk over to the door with the Notebook and take your helmet off." I look over at the door wearily. My heart pounding in my chest. I don't want to die.

"Haha, we meet again, Yagami. Maybe I should have killed you. It's certainly interesting that we're exchanging the notebook again." Mello says with a smirk. Mello presses a button and the door slowly begins to open. "You can only bring in the notebook and your mask. Come in."

Yagami, Light's father I'm presuming, steps into the room. His hair is greying and age clearly displayed on his slightly wrinkled face. There's no doubt that he's Light Yagami's father. So Light sent the Task Force. Light must be fake L. It makes sense, especially if Light Yagami is Kira.

"Bring the notebook and mask over to me, I'm going to use you as my hostage again." Mello orders. I see Yagami looking from Mello to me, a brief wave of confusion falling over his face as he acknowledges my existence. He probably wasn't expecting to see a girl in the room. His eyes flick back over to Mello and his eyebrows furrow.

"Mello. Your real name is Mihael Keehl." I gasp in shock. He can see our names. I look over at Mello, shock written all over our faces. Yagami glances back over to me and I bite the inside of my cheek. Is he going to reveal my name too?

My cover is blown.

I can hear my heart beating in my ear and I dig my nails into my palms. Please don't say my name.

My surname is the exact same. If Yagami says my name then I'm sure Light will put the pieces together. Yagami has a microphone. Light is probably listening in right now.

I'll either die from the blast or I'll die from the Death Note's powers. I'd rather be killed by Mello than be killed by Light and the Death Note.

"We had already uncovered everything about you, so give up. If you surrender I won't kill you." I look over at Mello, how is he so calm?! "If I write your name in this book, you'll die. Drop that switch and raise your hands. Now! Drop the switch!"

I don't think he's going to kill me. They're clearly here to kill Mello and retrieve the Death Note. I probably don't fit in, I'm in pyjamas, so he probably suspects that I'm not part of the mafia. I really don't fit in. I probably look like a deer in headlights.

Mello laughs. "You can't threaten me. If you try to write my name down, I'll just press the button."

"Do it then." Yagami replies. "I'm prepared to lose my life it means that you'll die too. I'm sure you don't want to kill the girl either. She's the girl that's been on the news, kidnapped from her apartment. She's clearly important if she's in here with you and you didn't leave her behind to be killed." My eyes widen. Shit. Light's going to know it's me. He's going to know his father can see my name. I wince slightly. I'm dead. I'm so dead. Thank God he's not saying my name.

L, brother, forgive me. I couldn't defeat Kira.

I look over at Mello and see him frown. "Stop trying to be a hero, Yagami. You might be satisfied with dying, but what about your men? You're going to sacrifice them too? What about the girl here, she's an innocent girl. Kidnapped from her home, and you're willing to let her die?" Mello points at me with the hand holding the chocolate bar.

"They're my men. They're all prepared to face death." Yagami replies. "I don't know how large that explosion of yours is going to be, but if there are going to be survivors, my fully equipped men have the best chance. If I hold onto the notebook it shouldn't get damaged beyond use. To tell you the truth, we just want you and the notebook to disappear. Give it up, Mello. The only way you'll live through this is to surrender. Drop that switch."

"Mello, please. You can't kill me." I whisper. I feel my eyes begin to tear up at the thought of dying. I don't expect dying from an explosion is going to be very pleasant. His eyes very quickly flicker over to me, I almost missed it.

"You've never killed anyone before, have you?" Mello questions, dropping his bar of chocolate to reach into a drawer. A single silver gun is resting inside. Yagami begins writing down Mello's name in the Death Note.

"Don't move!" Yagami orders.

"Stop it!" Mello shouts back.

"I only have to write your last name down. It'll take me less than a second. Give up and hand yourself over to us. The girl will be safe too."

"I'm sorry, Yagami." Mello says. Yagami freezes at Mello's words and I find myself curious as to what he means by them. "You should have just written my name down without hesitation, but now that I've noticed it, you're not going to get the chance to write my name down anymore."

Behind Yagami is what I thought was a dead body. Its arm reaches out and grasps a forgotten gun on the floor. Without hesitating, he shoots Yagami several times. I flinch at the sound and cover my ears. There are several bangs at the door as the other Taskforce members hit their fists against the metal.

"Jose, get the notebook!" Mello orders to the man on the floor. The man struggles to grab the Death Note from Yagami. Mello pulls on a mask and throws another at me, I catch it effortlessly and slip it on.

"It's no use. He won't let go of the notebook." The man, Jose, replies.

There's a loud crash as the metal door separating us from the others collapses and the rest of the task force members storm into the room, there are more gunshots and I try my best not to flinch.

Mello grabs my arm and pulls me to him. His other arm, the one holding the switch, is outstretched towards the others.

"It's all over, Mello. Drop the switch." The man in front says. I bury my face into Mello's chest and hear a click.

This originally was going to end in 20 chapters, I'm glad I still have much more to write because I really enjoy writing this :3 it will probably be 30 chapters, idk XD
