I'm in the process of editing all of this! (So I apologize in advance if I take forever) I'm tying all the pieces to the story together <3
-AuthorI managed to find rest during the bumpy ride, though it was rather difficult with the traffic and busy traffic. After some time I was awoken to an unpleasant jerk of the car and I flung forward; luckily my seatbelt caught me. I raised my head and scanned the building. The gates swung open and we drove in. As I examined the layout noticed dozens of children pressing their faces against the window.
My stomach lurched at the thought.
"This is an orphanage..?" I nervously whispered. Watari chuckles and after parking, gets out and opens the door for me. I stepped out cautiously and waited for Ryuzaki to come towards me.
I shyly smiled and thanked Watari, who let us know we could go inside. I hadn't noticed, but Ryuzaki squeezed my hand anxiously. I turned to him expecting to see Ryuzaki, but the words that danced upon his head spoke different.
'L Lawliet...just who are you?'
Lawliet led me through the door and we were greeted by many loud, excited children who wanted to see the newcomer. Lawliet sensed the tension and we soon pushed through the crowds in a desperate attempt to leave. The crowd thinned and just as I thought I was safe, a young boy grabbed me by my shoulder and pulled me towards him. He smiles and spoke rather loudly. "Look, look! A new friend! Who are you?" He was bursting with questions. Before I could answer any, his face quickly fell as he saw Lawliet.
"Huh? You shouldn't be with him. He doesn't want to be your friend, so come play with me instead!" The boy extended his hand but Lawliet slapped it away and pulled me into a hug. "No, she's my friend!" It was soon a brawl of tug of war between the two boys.
"Let go!"
"She's my friend!"
Watari walked in with a surprised expression on his face. He was used to fights, but Lawliet rarely interacted with the other kids. Watari scurried over to pull me away from the two children. They continued yelling. "They're trying to take her away!" Lawliet exclaimed. The other boy chimes in much louder. "Watari! He's hogging her!" I felt embarrassed and trails of pink soon danced on my face. Finally, Watari silences them.
"Now, now. She will be coming to my office. You can meet her later." Lawliet tugged on Watari's sleeve to ask if he could come too. He nods and we trot off, dodging flares and huffs from the other children. We approached his office. "Lawliet, I need a moment with (Y/n) alone, is that okay?" He nods and watches us go into his private office.
Watari sat down in his chair and urged me to sit down across the desk. As I carefully placed myself in the chair, Watari typed away on his computer. "Now, (Y/n) was it? Do you mind giving me some identification of your parents?" I shuffled my feet awkwardly as I gave him my mothers name. "And father?" I remained silent. He nods as if he's seen this before and continues. All I could hear was the keyboard clicking, no other sounds. Finally, he broke the silence.
"There is no information on your parents."
My lips began to quiver and my eyes followed, forming small tears. "They have to be there!" I sputtered. "There's a mistake!" Watari noticed me clutching my pendant. "Are there any remnants of your family?" I nodded and hesitated, but I gave him the pendant to examine. It could be open, but I never did. I was too afraid of the contents. He opened it up to find a grey flat stone with scribbles on it.
"Scribbles?" I asked, puzzled. It took him a moment but he drew a conclusion. "It appears to be a bar code, (Y/n). Were you aware of this?" I shook my head and watched him scan it into the computer. A single folder popped up onto the empty computer screen. He opened it to reveal a series of letters and documents. The first one had a picture of my mother. A beautiful woman she was.
She was not registered as a citizen anywhere, she went 'off the grid' so to speak. Watari skimmed over the note and let me read.
My mother was one of the few members of an organization that openly exposed a dangerous, religious cult. We had to lay low and move fast, never dare to be seen. The cause of her disappearance soon became clear."I'll leave the rest to you. But, (Y/n). I could not find your father. Perhaps she was a single parent?" I nod. I could not remember. He gave me back the pendent (which I put on) and gave me an official welcoming to the orphanage with a warm smile.
I wiped away my tears while he led me to the door. I thanked him once more, but once I turned I was swept into a sea of children's laughter and yelling. Not growing up around other children I was always very weary. I buried my hands into my face and down an empty hallway. None of the kids saw me run.
All except one.
Lawliet chased after me and latched onto my shoulder. "Are there too many kids here? Is that it?" I nodded and he smiled."Well, come on. We can go to my room!"
He held onto my hand and we walked through the hallways, carelessly. As children were supposed to be. We began to laugh and run, my notebook and pendant dancing along in sync to us.
(Just gonna tell you guys that this story won't completely follow the manga or show! (^_^;) it'll be a little different."
