It had been Marinette's first day of school. She had been home schooled ever since she could remember, and now she was finally attending a public high school. She had made a new friend, Alya, who seemed nice. Something was bothering Marinette, though. Sabrina, who had been a friend of hers since she was very little, had placed gum on someone's -- Adrien's, as she now knew his name -- desk, and Marinette had tried getting it off, but when the blond walked in, he believed that it was the bluette who was attaching the gum. She had tried to explain that it wasn't her, but the boy wouldn't listen.

Marinette heaved a sigh, thinking about that moment. She was approaching the entrance to the school, the bun in her hair once neat and tidy was now messy and falling apart. The girl was encountering the doors, and saw that it was now raining. She reached behind her and into her backpack, finding her umbrella. She pulled it out, pushing one of the doors open with her free hand. When she reached the steps, she saw a slightly familiar blond standing there, getting soaked in the rain. He seemed to be upset; maybe he didn't have an umbrella.

The girl walked slightly past the boy, glancing his way. It was who she thought it was; Adrien. His jeans, black t-shirt with green paw prints printed onto it, and white overshirt were drenched. She sighed, frowning at him.

"It's true, you know. It was Sabrina who put the gum on your seat." She smiled weakly at Adrien, and continued, "I've never really had friends before. This is all sort of...new to me."

With that, Marinette extended out the arm holding the umbrella, handing the black cover to the blond, smiling widely. Adrien was wide eyed, mouth gaping open a little. He was not expecting her to hand him the umbrella; not one little bit. So when Marinette did exactly that, he wasn't sure how to react. He let out a shy murmur, reaching his hand out for the device. When their hands collided, Adrien hesitated, pulling his hand back a little. But he soon reached out again, and finally grabbed the umbrella.

There was a moment of silence between the two, Marinette smiling, and Adrien's lips still parted in surprise. Then there was a slight click, and the umbrella folded in on the blond. Marinette made a small gasp, then burst out laughing. It was a genuine laugh; one she hadn't made in a while, since her father died. Soon Adrien was chuckling, too, and Marinette let out a content sigh. She waved at the boy, then spoke, "See you tomorrow," and walked down the steps without an umbrella. Her limo was here and she would finally be heading home after a long day. Marinette's Kwami, Tikki, came out of hiding from her shirt and smiled at her.

"What was that, true love?"

"Tikki, he's just a friend..." Marinette paused, thinking about what she had just said. "A friend..." she repeated, looking back to Adrien, a smile growing on the girl's face.

Marinette finally had a friend.
