✸✸✸✸Many don't know but after someone dies, they go to the ghost world. The ghost world is basically a second life. There is a catch though, if you perish in the ghost world you're gone, forever.
Crossing worlds
It all started on a brisk, sunny, wednesday afternoon. It was the eve of Halloween. Fortunately every halloween the portals open to the living world. However, every year someone goes missing. Last year my best friend Sammy Girthal, went missing. I never saw him again.
I was rolling around on the ground with my dog Spot when the doorbell rang. It was Granmér! Grandmér alway makes me feel queasy inside because it reminds of my real family. Every time I try to ask about my real family my mom changes the subject. I guess that's a touchy subject for her because I'm not her real child. They were going to have a child but they died in a car crash with the baby not born. My parents names are Maranda and and Michael Smith. I call them Mom and Dad but it just doesn't seem right. The doorbell rang again bringing me back to reality.
"Honey can you please get the door?" My mom said from the kitchen.
" Ya mom!" I said pushing Spot off of me.
As I trudged up to the door I peered through the peep hole where I saw Grandmér standing with a basket of food in her hand.
I open the door and she cried out, "David!" She still doesn't call me by the right name.
" Grandmér please call me Daniel!" I said persistently.
"Whatever! As they say these days," She said waving the comment away. Now I brought you some peanut butter cookies!" she said hugging me. Peanut butter cookies are my favorite and Grandmér's are the best but today I wasn't feeling like it. I had a lot on my mind. Grandmér noticed but she didn't say anything.
" Aw Maranda! Darling do you need help with anything?"
" No thanks Grandmér." She pause and then said, "well I would like it if u could help me unload the dishwasher please."
" But of course" Grandmér replied.
While mom and Grandmér were cleaning and preparing I head upstairs and went up to my room. My room is definitely not the nicest. I have clothes all over the floor and my bed sheets are messed up. Over in the corner is my fish tank. Her name is Angel and she was flushed down a toilet and somehow drowned. As I start walking over to the fish tank I hear a knock on the door. I spun around on my heels and headed over there when the door opened and Grandmér head came into view.
"May I come in?" she asked
"Sure"
"Look David, "She said staring at me with her warm brown eyes, " I know what is bothering you."
" You do? " I asked cautiously.
" You are thinking about your parents. And I know because you have the same look on your face when you first arrived here.
"Oh," I said with my gaze down.
"I have something for you." she said as she started to pull out a circle and silver looking locket. As she was about to hand it to me my mom yelled it was time for dinner. " We'll save this for later." She said tucking it away. As we went downstairs I was thinking of all the possibilities of why the locket was so important.
Dinner was great, I wolfed down some chocolate chip pancake and bits of bacon. Followed by a swig of orange juice, I rushed upstairs to pack for the trip to the living world. I grabbed my bag and stuffed it with a jar of nutella, dog treats, a flashlight, a extra pair of socks, a blanket, my old swiss army knife, and a water bottle with a built in filter that I use when I go camping. I took my over stuffed bag down stairs into the living room and put it by the fireplace. I looked up and saw spot bounding towards me with his little dog fanny pack and leash attached to him. When I looked up again I realized why he was running. My dad was running towards him with a dog tag in his left hand. When my Ghost parents got in the car accident, he lost feeling in his right hand and it's been that way ever since.
"Spot!" my dad said huffing, "I need you to stay still!" As I watched my dad struggle a bit I decided to help him. So I went over to my bag and grabbed the dog treats.
"Spot! Look what I have!" I said in a taunting voice. Spot turned his head towards my direction and tilted it to the left, as if he was expecting food.
"Stayyyy, good boy"
My dad saw his chance and put on Spots dog tag. For a second spot looked confused and then flattened his ears and let out a small whine.
"You silly dog" I said and threw him a treat.
"Are u guys ready?" My mom asked from over by the fire place.
"Ready as I'll ever be." I said with Spot's leash in one hand and my bag in the other. I glanced at my dad and then at my Grandmér and mom. I wonder if... Just then there was a blinding bright light and then a scream.
