It was a quiet night in San Francisco as Janet's daughter, Leah, had just came back home from her college graduation ceremony. She sat alone at the dining room table when her mother walked in.
"Oh, Sweetie, what's wrong? Everything ok?" Janet asked her as she placed her hand on Leah's shoulder.
"Yeah, I just feel kinda weird. I mean I don't know what to do. It's like.. now what?" Leah answered.
"I know dear, I've been there before. But you know what I did to cheer myself up?" Janet asked her as she sat down next to her. "I called some of my old friends and we got together and had a big party and oh, it was so fun."
"But that's just it, I don't have any. Most of my friends moved away, and had babies. Now they have babies, and I don't have anyone." Leah told her mother.
"Aw, I'm sorry sweetheart. Hey, what about Nic and Toby? Have you talked to them lately?" Janet asked her.
"No," Leah answered before thinking about her old friends.
"You should call them! I remember the first time we introduced you all to each other. It was around the time Jack and Chrissy just had babies too. They thought we should get you all together and you guys became the bestest friends. We tried to keep in touch, but after Jack passed away, and Chrissy got divorced.. I guess we just drifted apart. Chrissy took Jack's death the hardest. She couldn't even look at his son. But now that you all are grown up, you should get back together again! Call them, Sweetie!" Janet told her eagerly as she smiled.
"I think I will." Leah replied with a smile.
"Oh that's great! I can't wait to hear how they're doing. Well, I should get some sleep. Your father wants to take me and the dogs hiking early tomorrow. Good night, Sweetheart." Janet told her before kissing her forehead.
"Night," Leah replied before looking through her phone. She went to her favorites as she found that she still had their numbers there. She gave them both a call. The next day, Leah sat at the counter in her mother's kitchen as she waited for her friends to arrive.
Just as she got up to get a drink, the doorbell rang.
"Toby! Hi!" Leah said after answering the door.
"Hello! How are you?" Toby asked as they hugged.
"Good, you?" Leah asked her.
"Good too," Toby said smiling.
"Well come inside! Nic should be here any minute." Leah told her before she walked in.
Toby and Leah caught up as they waited for Nic.
"So now I just have one more year left and I'll be able to become a veterinarian.. which is a coincidence since I'm a vegetarian." Toby told her before the doorbell rang again.
"That's great," Leah replied before walking to the front door.
"Nic! Hi!" Leah said after answering the door.
"Hey Leah," Nic said before hugging her.
"Come in, come in." Leah told him.
"Hi Nic!" Toby said with a big smile.
"Hi Toby, how are you?" Nic asked as he hugged her.
"Good, you?"
"Good too," Nic answered.
"Well, come into the kitchen. Let's catch up." Leah told them before they all walked to the kitchen to talk.
"So I was just telling Leah I just have one more year to go until I get my diploma." Toby said as they got to the kitchen.
"Cool, congrats." Nic told her.
"Thanks," Toby replied.
"So what's new with you, Nic?" Leah asked him.
"Nothing really. I've just been looking for a better job. Hadn't had much luck though." Nic answered.
"Aw, I'm sorry. I hope you find one." Leah replied.
"Me too. What's new with you? How've you been?" Nic asked her.
"Well, actually I just graduated and I was just thinking how we used to always hang out together.. I miss that." Leah told them as she placed her hands on the counter.
"Me too," Toby said before placing her hand over Leah's.
"Well, it's not too late. We're here now." Nic told them with a smile.
"Yeah. Thank you both for coming.. and I'm sorry we haven't really stayed in touch." Leah told them.
"No it's fine, Leah. We all had things going on. But now we're back. I'm so happy we are." Toby said smiling at them.
"This is so weird. It's like everything and nothing's changed." Nic said, smiling in disbelief.
"Aw, you guys.. bring it in!" Leah said with her arms opened before they all hugged.
The front door opened as they heard someone walking into the kitchen.
"Hi! Tobiah? Nicolas? Oh my goodness, you both have grown up so much! You both look so cute! How are you guys?" Janet said with a big smile as she walked in.
"Hi Mrs. G," They said smiling.
"Oh, this is so nice. You guys remind me of Jack, Chrissy, and I." Janet told them as she walked to the refrigerator to grab a drink.
The three friends looked at each other as Leah had an idea.
"Well, alright.. I'll let you guys catch up. Have fun!" Janet told them before walking upstairs.
Leah looked at Toby and Nic as they could tell what she was thinking.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Leah asked them.
"Are you thinking what I think you're thinking?" Nic asked her.
"Are you thinking of getting a pet chicken too?" Toby asked her.
"I think she's drunk." Nic replied.
"I was thinking maybe we could live together! Like our parents did! Think about it, we already know each other, we want to spend more time together, this is the perfect solution! What do you think?" Leah asked them.
"I think I'd probably lose the chicken," Toby replied.
"I think we should do it! And go out for chicken to celebrate!" Nic told them.
"So that's what happened to Sir Lexington!" Toby said, disappointed.
"Toby, what do you think?" Leah asked her.
"I love it. Let's do it, let's live together!" She answered with great excitement.
"Aw, yes! We're gonna be roommates!" Leah said smiling before hugging them both.
"But seriously, can we get a pet chicken?" Toby asked them.
