Miracles, in the sense of phenomena we cannot explain, surround us on every hand: life itself is the miracle of miracles [George Bernard Shaw]
They found hope on each other's misery.
It has been two years since Elaine was confined at St. Gabriel's Hospital. Two years of suffering. Two years of loneliness. Time is running out so fast. And life is starting to slip away but she didn't give up. She kept on hoping for a miracle to happen. And a miracle happened one night.
There is a commotion in the hospital. Nurses and doctors are panicking everywhere. Gian Montecarlo met a car accident. His body is severely damaged and there is a great possibility that his brain had a concussion.
One year has passed since the accident of Gian Montecarlo and Elaine is still confined in the hospital. Another year has been taken away from her. She does not wish to live like this. When your time is limited you have to spend it to be happy. Sadly, she can't do that. Spending her time on things she wanted to do will only take away more of her time.
So, she spent her time reading books, talking to other patients and nurses, walking inside the hospital and watching TV dramas.
She was sitting on a bench near the Nurse's station when a little girl approached her. The little girl was really cute. Brown eyes, chubby cheeks and porcelain. Oh, how jealous she was.
I bet this girl will break thousands of hearts in the future. She thought.
"Ate, can you help me find room 310?" The little girl asked Elaine.
"Sure." Then she pinched the little girl's cheeks. She has already coped with her hospital life. She considered this place as her second home. She was fourteen when she found out that she has leukemia. She fought her disease. She fought to live until the day her wish will be granted.
"I think this is room 310. May I ask who is confined here?" Elaine asked the girl.
"My Kuya Gian. Come inside and I'll introduce you to him." The girl held her hands and led her inside. The state of the man inside shocked her. Tubes and wires were all over his body. Then the little girl sat beside the guy.
"You know what, Ate? This guy right here is really good. He would always look out for others. He always had a smile on his face even though he was really lonely. Behind the happy-go-lucky attitude was a guy hoping to be loved. Too bad he's still sleeping for a year already."
"A year?" Elaine asked the girl.
"Yes." The little girl answered.
Elaine thought that the guy must be in coma. She looked at how the little girl cares for his brother. What a lovely and sad sight it was.
"Kuya, you have a new visitor. She is my friend. She led me here." Then the girl looked happily at Elaine.
"She is really pretty. If you wake up I'll let you marry her."
Elaine laughed but tried to hide it from the little girl. Silly girl. she thought.
One month has passed and Elaine was always visiting Gian--her new friend. She promised the little girl named Faith that she will visit her Kuya everyday. The girl was really thankful to know that because she doesn't want her Kuya to be lonely. Elaine was happy to hear those words from Faith. If it could lessen Faith's sadness to know that somebody cares for her loved one then she will gladly do it. She wished that she had a little sister like her. It will make her passing less painful for her parents.
Day after day she would go to room 301. She was also waiting for Faith to come back but up to now she never visited. Elaine thought that the kid must be busy studying. Elaine wished she could also go back to school. It made her imagine what would it be like to be with her classmates again. Some of her classmates visits her when they were on their break. They were already college students. She would also be a college student now.
