The song I used is Runnin' Outta Moonlight by Randy Houser. I put the video on the side! In case you hadn't figured it out, I am a huge fan of country music and I will be using a lot of it!

Chapter 10

Michael’s POV

Spinning my locker combination – a bit of déjà vu from earlier – I couldn’t get the awkward encounter I had with Ivy out of my head. What was I thinking, going after her like that? Sighing, I jerked my locker open, snatching the brown bag of food from my backpack and slamming the locker closed, a little too forcefully. I started walking towards the cafeteria when an idea hit me. Smiling, I veered off in the direction of the arts wing.

When I got outside the studio door, I peeked in to see if Ivy was in there. Seeing that the room was empty, I quickly walked in, glancing around for paper and pen. The counters were spotless, say for a few scraps of paper. Seriously, I’m in an art room and there’s no paper or pen anywhere?!? Grabbing a slip of paper from the counter top, I went in search of a pen.

Ivy’s stuff was tossed onto a table, but it didn’t feel right going through her stuff for a pen. I patted my pockets, hoping luck was on my side but coming up empty. Growling in frustration, I turned and something caught my eye under a table.

Crouching down, I saw a pen lying under a stool. Quickly picking it up, I stared at the blank scrap of paper in front of me, trying to decide what to write to Ivy. What do I write? See you later? No… Have a good class? Too corny… Gah! I pounded the table lightly, wishing something would pop up in my head.

Looking around the room, hoping for some inspiration, I saw the rolled up tube sticking out of Ivy’s bag that was on top of the table. Should I look at her piece or would that be nosey? But it’s sitting right there for anyone to see and it’s not like I’ll hurt it. Contemplating whether or not to look at the piece, curiosity got the better of me. Checking the hallway to make sure she wasn’t coming, I snatched the tube and unrolled it.

Studying the graphite drawing, I could make out a sunset from what looked to be a boat or dock. The sunset sky was reflecting off the water, making the piece look really three dimensional. My eyes widened and I almost dropped the drawing I was holding.

Quickly rolling it up and putting it back in her bag, I picked up the pen and paper. Suddenly, I heard a door opening. My heart picked up speed as I began to panic. Scribbling down my note, I tossed the pen onto another table and laid the note on Ivy’s bags. Sprinting from the room as quietly as I could, I raced down the hall towards the cafeteria, a smug smile on my face over the message I had left Ivy;

V, I have a surprise for you tonight. Meet me outside your house at 8.

I was leaning against the truck, swinging the keys waiting for Ivy. My brother had texted me last minute saying he had to stay after for a review session and I couldn’t have been happier. Checking my watch, 3:49, I sighed and leaned my head back on the truck, closing my eyes and letting the warmth wash over me. It felt like I had stood there for hours, when I heard footsteps approaching.

Opening my eyes, I saw Ivy and I assumed her sister next to her. Ivy was whispering to her sister, who was looking up at her nodding her head to whatever she was saying. As they got closer, I pushed off the truck and opened the door. “Hey,” Ivy said as she got closer. “This is my sister Oakley. Oakley, this is Michael.” I nodded in acknowledgement as Oakley just stared at me in wonder. I cleared my throat awkwardly and glanced at Ivy who nudged Oakley. Blinking, Oakley smiled and held her hand out.
