"Hey guys," I say.
"Checking out the competition?" Alex asks.
"You could say that..." Says Raven.
"I mean, there's not really a lot of competition, Me and Aiden have got this in the bag." Says Maple, while putting her hands on her hips and looking snugly at all of us.
"Psh! You wish! Me and Zander are chariot royalty! Well zoom thru the corse, no problem!" Raven says while leaning on one hip for effect.
Don't get me wrong, we all loved each other but we were a particular competitive group. At that moment Zander appears from the shadows almost instantly. He has brown eyes and brown hair that turns up.
"Hey." He says in a husky, low, quiet, flat voice.
And raven gives him a side smirk. Then gong rang meaning that there was 10 minutes until we had to get ready for the chariot race. I said good bye to my friends then quickly ran down to the breakfast area with alex and we both grabbed a muffin.
We eat them while walking down to the armoury to get out battle gear. Once we are there I get shin pads, elbows pads, and a helmet. Yah, were not really well protected when we are trying to fight to the death, not literally of course, just... A little bit. After me and Alex finish he puts his sword in its sheath and we start walking to the arena as I put my hair in a side braid.
"Ugh!" I mutter in frustration as I desperately tug at my hair.
"What's wrong?" Alex asks as he's reading a short novel about chariots.
"My hair isn't cooperating, it looks horrific!" I state dramatically frowning at my side braid across my shoulders.
"You look fine." Alex says flatly.
"You know, I don't care about looks! So why does it matter so much to you, you look fine, and fine is fine. Isn't that good enough?!" He continues.
"No." I answer back and he rolls his eyes muttering something about how I can have the mind of an Aphrodite sometimes.
"Look, you know I'm not the prettiest thing in the world, so the least I can do is let my hair look good!" He didn't answer me when I said that he just stared down at his book shaking his head and muttering something like "You really don't know..." Whatever that was supposed to mean.
As I walk, I grow a vine that follows me and a flower blooms from it for me to pick off of. I pick it and stare at it, it's a pretty orange colour with pinky red stripes coming from the middle, it was a beautiful flower that believe it or not, I created, I called it autumns sunrise, and it was my signature blossom then I set it in my hair. Once we were at the chariot races me and alex went through his plan, I would go all into my tree-making-trance and he would defend me while I made thorns cover the other contestants chariots then i would shoot us through the sky with vines.
"Alex, I'm gonna pass out after..." I warn him rolling my eyes.
He looks worried then shakes it off, "you'll be fine, I've got your back," he states.
"Ya you and a passed out girl against 12 other people, the odds are not in you favour, Smith." He rolled his eyes at my remark and sighed.
"You are impossible sometimes." I slightly smirk and wink.
"Only with you, bookbrain." I answer him and he sighs.
We arrive at the chariot and there's 6 other teams, all ready to begin. Me and alex walk down the line of chariots, which all represent their teams, like if there was a team of Apollo and Aphrodite their chariot would have a sun and a lipgloss or something on it. Me and Alex's chariot was one of the best though, I painted it myself, on the front and sides it showed a wheat field, and the sky above it was filled with dark clouds and lightning shooting out of them, it was pretty awesome. Once we got to our chariot we both awaited all the other teams. Raven and Zander climbed into their silver chariot with black cross bow and arrows that had skeleton heads at the end, and Maple and Aiden climb into their green chariot with snake designs around the edges and a sun in the middle. Then Chiron headed out in front of the start line to explain to us the rules.
"Hellooo Racers!" He bellowed and the crowd went wild.
"Before I go over the rules I would just like to interlude the racers for today..." Chiron went on naming each of the racers before it got to me and alex, raven and Zander, and maple and Aiden, to be the last ones yet.
"And now introducing the team of a daughter of Demeter and a son of Athena, Willow and Alex!" The crowed roared and I couldn't help smiling, ya, we were that good. Alex became as red as a tomato when somebody yelled "get some alex!" All I could do is laugh, cause, well, haters gonna hate. Then Chiron introduced maple and Aiden, and the crowed roared just as loud as they did for me and alex, but roared louder after Aiden pecked Mapes on the cheek and she elbowed him playfully. Those too were so flirty you wouldn't believe.. well... At least Aiden was. Then Chiron introduced Raven and Zander, and the crowed went insane.. Why you ask? Well, they were the best team I've ever encountered in my life, sometimes you think they could read each others minds. As Chiron finishes up his speech he runs us all over the rules,
"no killing or really damaging eachother. If we find out any sabotage had been done to any of the chariots, we cancel chariot racing for three months. Well, I thinks that's it, remember to have fun and oh ya thats right DONT KILL EACH OTHER PLEASE." He says then turns around and walks off the track.
"Chariots at the ready!!!" Chiron says as he beings counting down...
