Original Fairy Tale Name: Hans My Hedgehog
Classification: N/A
Writer(s): Brothers Grimm
Once upon a time there lived a man named Sumeragi. He lived with his wife Mikoto near the forest, but they were unable to have children.
After finishing his work one day, Sumeragi was walking through the forest before he suddenly stopped and stared up at the sky.
"I want a child!" He yells. "My wife Mikoto is barren! I want a kid, even if he's a hedgehog!"
Sighing, Sumeragi began to walk back home. He opened the door, only to see Mikoto holding a small bundle.
"What's that?" Sumeragi asks.
"Our son," Mikoto replied.
Sumeragi looks at the bundle, only to see a half-baby and half-hedgehog hybrid. But he didn't care about that, as he now had a son.
"This is wonderful! We shall name him Ryoma!"
And so Sumeragi and Mikoto raised a hybrid hedgehog human named Ryoma.
When Ryoma was an adult, his father approached him as Ryoma was moving some wood around.
"Ryoma, do you want anything?"
"Bagpipes."
Sumeragi laughed. "Of course! I'll get it later today."
A few hours later, Sumeragi returned home with a set of bagpipes. After handing it to Ryoma, Ryoma set off to go find his fortune, playing his bagpipe as he went along.
As Ryoma walked through the forest and played his bagpipes, he began to watch over the livestock in the area. Because he constantly played his bagpipes, a king soon found him after several days.
"Hello?" The King asked.
"Hello," Ryoma replied. "I'm Ryoma the Hedgehog."
The King blinked. Was he seriously talking to a hedgehog? He shook his head and managed to find his words.
"I'm lost... Can you show me the way back home?"
"I can. But you have to promise me something," Ryoma replied.
"Anything," the king replied, crossing two of his fingers behind his back where Ryoma couldn't see.
"You have to promise me your daughter in marriage."
"Of course!" The king replied, although he was horrified by this implication.
Ryoma nodded and led him out of the woods. As soon as he was out of Ryoma's sight, he dashed him and warned his daughter. Ryoma went back to tending the livestock, but something told him that this king wouldn't uphold his promise.
A few weeks later, Ryoma was playing his bagpipes when another king stumbled into the grove.
"Hello," Ryoma stated calmly. "I'm Ryoma the Hedgehog."
"Hello," the second king replied. "I am Garon, and I am lost."
"I will show you the way out, if you promise me something," Ryoma stated calmly.
