Late, that’s what I was. I crawled out of bed with difficulty and hauled myself up to look into the mirror. I dreaded what I was about to see. I gasped in horror as I saw my ultimate nightmare. My usually brown curly hair had turned into a mop of frizzy mess. It looked a lot like a cat’s hairball. Eugh. I knew then that not even the saviour of all bad hair days and tangles could fix this. Bye, bye hairbrush. The only way to fix this…actually there was nothing that could undo this horrible hairdo. Wait! Lea could fix this! Yes, I’m going to be saved. This will be the perfect wedding day!
I approached the small hairdressers wearing a beany hat covering all of my beastly hair and my nerdy shades to hide my bags. Some would say I looked suspicious, I agreed. I opened the door to be greeted by many pairs of staring eyes. Didn’t people teach them that it was rude to stare? Damn! I noticed the incredibly long queue. I staggered to the front and the glaring eyes seemed to follow my every move. With a barely audible voice I whispered ‘It’s Michelle.’ and with just those two words I was taken to the back of the shop only to see my best friend, Lea. “Michelle!” she screamed in happiness as we ran to hug each other. I pushed her away with a serious expression, she instantly understood. “Is it that bad?” She questioned. I nodded vigorously. I sat down and waited until my friend pulled off the beany. She also gasped in utter horror as she saw the mess tumble down past my shoulders. Lea looked angry, very angry. “WHAT DID YOU DO?”
“What do you mean?” I asked with fake innocence.
“THIS!” she shouted pointing at what was supposed to be my hair.
I must tell you, even though Lea is my best friend since childhood, she is now a VERY famous hair stylist and extremely fussy about my hair condition. Just ONE split end and she will nag at me for an hour. Oh dear, why did I think about coming here?
After two hours of rent less nagging and painful tugging, my hair and makeup was finally complete. After walking out of the shop I seemed to be getting even more stares. Well, duh! You don’t see a girl with a REALLY done up hairdo wearing a baggy hoodie in the middle of town! I called a taxi and returned home. Exhausted already, I slipped into my dreamy wedding dress. I was bewildered at the sight! The sweetheart neckline looked gorgeous with its beautifully beaded bodice. I can’t believe I’m saying this but it was more beautiful than Cinderella’s dress. It looked stunning at every angle. I snapped back to reality when I heard the doorbell ring. It must be Dad.
The moment I opened the door I saw my father’s eyes begin to tear up. Whoa! First time I’ve seen him so emotional…since the car accident. I wished mum was there.” No, no! Think happy thoughts Michelle!” I said to myself I entered the limo with great difficulty, ready to be taken to the venue.
The car rolled up to the magnificent building Raiden and I had chosen. The venue was big; the hundred or so people seemed like thousands. I never really liked crowds; actually that is an understatement, I hated crowds. But all my nerves were forgotten when I saw him, Raiden. Standing at the end of the rose coloured carpet that was coated with white petals, how romantic! His usually messy brown hair was combed and weirdly neat. He looked ten times more handsome in his suit. Then the music started. My father took my hand and began to walk me down the aisle. I started having flashbacks of the time we met.
I was alone, in the park sitting on a bench at 4 in the afternoon. I was totally messed up and angry. I had failed my maths exam in my university and, damn it, I was frustrated at myself for not studying. Then I remember chucking the paper behind me and continued drinking my costa coffee. I didn’t notice a guy come and sit next to me. “5% wow. You can get scores that low.” I almost choked.
“Excuse me! That’s mine!” I exclaimed as I tried to snatch the paper away.
“But you threw it away.” He said while feigning innocence and waving the paper over his head as I desperately tried to get my belonging back.
That was it. That moment my life changed. It had him. We dated for two years and I fell deeper and deeper in love. The same place he proposed. Of course like any other romantic, stupid woman I cried my eyes out.
Then this is it! I returned to reality, only a few mere inches away from Raiden. He looked shocked. Staring me up and down, then he smirked. Whispering into my ear with his husky voice he said, “You look beautiful.” I bushed.
The priest began to talk, but all I heard was faint mumbling. I was captured by my soon-to-be husband's eyes. Oh why are they so blue?
“Raiden Joe Lewis, do you take Michelle Jane Williams for your lawful wedded wife, to live in the holy estate of matrimony? Will you love, honour, comfort, and cherish her from this day forward, forsaking all others, keeping only unto her for as long as you both shall live?” I heard the priest say.
“I do.” I smiled at him, a smile full of happiness.
“Michelle Jane Williams, do you take Raiden Joe Lewis for your lawful wedded husband, to live in the holy estate of matrimony? Will you love, honour, comfort, and cherish him from this day forward, forsaking all others, keeping only unto him for as long as you both shall live? ”
This was it, this moment. I would get my happy ending just like all the stupid fairy tales I’d always loathed. Here goes!
“I d-“ Briing! Briing!
What? Damn! My business phone was ringing. I knelt down and picked it up out of my high heels. What I kept my phone there you know…um…for emergencies? I looked around the venue and to my distress I saw many (and I mean MANY) eyes that were staring at me. Cold, icy, disapproving looks. I picked up.
“Agent Hunter, You’re needed.”
