"You're avoiding the shots, are you not?" Nurse Reese asked. "That's a direct disobedience to the rules. It is punishable by death and you know it. Why did you do this? Was it her idea?"

Looking at Nurse Reese's finger that pointed directly at Borgina, Nathan was tempted to let her take the fall for a split second. He quickly remembered how many times she had saved him in the past and decided against it.

"It wasn't. It was all my idea and I'm sorry. The shots contain Intoxifiers. I didn't want to keep taking them. I know pleading with you now is probably useless but..." Nathan hadn't finished his sentence when he got interrupted by Nurse Reese.

"Why didn't you talk to me about it?" She asked.

"No offense, Nurse Reese but you are programmed to follow orders. Telling you would have been the same as telling the Ruling Council. I didn't want be thrown out." He replied.

"No offense taken." She smiled.

"Really?" Nathan asked in shock.

"My orders were not to help you to your bed." She stated.

Nathan had completely overlooked the fact that she did that. If what he was thinking was true, then she was just like Borgina. She could go against her programmed code according to her discretion.

"Are you saying you're not going to tell anyone?" Nathan asked. He wasn't sure he understood what she was saying.

"Not if you don't want me to. I never bothered to question the composition of the shots." She replied with a smile.

Nathan let out a sigh of relief. He didn't realize he had been holding his breath from fear. He thought being found out by Nurse Reese would be the end of him. Knowing she was willing to go against the rules to save him just like Borgina gave him the greatest joy.

"Thank you, Nurse Reese." He exclaimed, welcoming her into his arms for a hug.

"You're welcome... and please, call me Reese." She replied.

Both parties hugged once more, not stopping to see what was going on behind them. Nurse Reese emptied the content of the syringe in the disinfectant bottle, before replacing all the items to the small green box. The pair continued to chat about Intoxifiers and their effects, along with the probable reasons for having them made compulsory. The happy party ended abruptly, when the power and Oxygen supply to the apartment and its environs were cut off.
