Hope (L x Reader)

Years later

(Sorry I've been updating so much! I've had nothing to do so bear with me! (^_^;) )

Years have passed since that day.
I've turned 14 and I've been doing small jobs people would offer me.
I've been saving up money for a boy to live with me but no matter how much I seem to get, it's never enough.

"Today's the day."
I told myself into a mirror as I brushed my hair.
I was going to ask for a job at the bakery.

I walked out the door and to the shop.
I was lucky that I looked older than I actually was. I planned to tell them that I lived with my dad in England but I had to come to Japan to make extra money.

I planned to talk to...L, I think his name was?

I sighed and knocked on the door.

This is it.
What happens if they reject me?

The door opened and a cheery looking lady smiled.
"It's a little early darlin, you here for something?"
I nodded. "I've seen your help wanted poster in the window."
She wiped her glasses and stared at me suspiciously.
"How old are you?"

"I'm fifteen. Please let me work here.
My dad is sick and I've moved here from England to earn a little more money!"

She smiled and extended the door.
"Of course you can work here, come right in." I smiled and stepped into the shop.

Time skip

I skipped down the streets munching on a cookie after work with money filled in my pockets.

I came to a halt when I noticed a fairly odd man.
I looked at the name above his head with my Shinigami eyes.

"Soichero Yagami."

His name read.

He's apart of the Japanese Police force.
He turned his head after noticing me staring at him.
"Hey!" He yelled. I quickly turned around and ran.
I decided to take a shortcut home.
I ran into my house and slammed the door.

I sighed of relief and fell down on the couch, pulled out my phone and decided to call Watari.
I slowly dialed the number and the phone started to ring.
"Hello?" He answered.
"Watari! It's me (Y/n)!"

He sounded surprised.
"It's good to hear from you! L's been worried. Where are you now?"
I bit my lip. "Japan..."
Watari hesitated to speak for a moment.

"You'd like to speak to L I presume?"
"Y-yes!" I stuttered, trying to rack my brain for the name L.
"Ok one moment."
I waited as he hung up. My Skype app started ringing.

After all these years...
I'd see L again...

I went into the app and clicked the accept button.

The screen showed L's face and his gloomy face lit up.
"Y-you're safe but I hear you're in Japan..." He said sadly.

"I'm afraid I'm forgetting you..."
I said miserably.
"What will happen if I forget you? Will you be mad?"
I said abruptly.
He shook his head.
"You tried...I wouldn't be mad."

"I'm saving money for you to live with me." I blurted out.
"Really?" He said sounding surprised.
"Yeah."
I retorted.

He smiled.
"Do you still have your heart piece?"
I nodded and held up my heart piece. He held his.
"We won't forget each other completely if we have these."
I smiled and held onto my piece tighter.

There was shaking and his screen started cracking up.
"BEYOND!" L screamed.
Beyond and William were cracking up in the background as they took L's iPad.

"GIVE THAT BACK!" L yelled.
The pair ran down the hallway laughing and giggling at their harmless prank.
"Hi (Y/n)..." Said Beyond in his smug tone of voice.
"(Y/n) I can't believe you're alive!"
Chanted William. I was laughing as L and the two delinquents were tugging the iPad back and forth.
L quickly grabbed it and ran towards his room.

"I may have to go now...Beyond or William might smuggle it again...or something."

Or something?

"Is something wrong?" I questioned.
His vibe suddenly changed.
His eyes that had the spark of light had grown dimmer and his voice seemed colder when he spoke.
"Everything's fine. Sorry I have to go."
He hung up and left me staring at the screen.

Somethings off...

I stared at the screen in disbelief.
"No." I said aloud. "He's not going to change." I grew tired and I pulled a blanket over myself.

In my dream I was chasing L as he was walking away.
A trail of darkness followed us each step we took.
"Please come back!" I sobbed.
I didn't know what was going on but L kept walking.
"If I forget about you then all my emotions will be gone. I don't need them. I don't need friends."

"I don't need you."

I broke off and fell to my knees.
"N-no..." I whispered.
"You've come this far alone (Y/n). Stop being a wuss and act like a grown up."
I stopped following him and fell onto the ground.

"I'm sorry!" I screamed.
L kept walking and I heard his voice echo through the distance.
"You don't need me. You don't need anyone. You're a monster. You can handle this by yourself."
Tears poured from my eyes and everything faded into black.

Then I woke up.
