Chapter 9:Happy Bad Birthday
A knock on my window at 4:57 in the morning on a Saturday awoke me from my deep slumber. I realized that today was my birthday. And the person knocking on my window was Cassidy.
Because my room was on the second floor she had to climb the tree that was a few feet away from my window and then stretch her short frame from the thin tree branch to the seat I had installed under my window so that sometimes I could sit outside without having to go downstairs.
I changed out of my pajamas and into a pair of black Nike shorts and a sky blue shirt with a gold bow n' arrow on it with my black and white Nike tennis shoes.
I climbed down the tree and hugged Cassidy, who had climbed down when I grumbled at her to go away, and Serenity, who didn't even come up the tree. Kira was also down there, texting away madly on her phone, which surprised me because Kira was known for staying in her bed until 11:00 on most Saturday's.
"Did you guys have to wake me up at 5:00 in the morning on a Saturday?"I asked angrily. I hadn't been able to fall asleep until 2:09, which was a few hours ago, and if I haven't slept much-which I haven't- I'm very irritating.
"Because today is your 19th birthday. It's a very important day,"Cassidy responded seriously.
"And I couldn't have slept until at least 8:00?" I asked sleepily.
"This happens every April 30th. We wake you up early so that when the Reed's wake up, they can't bother you because you'll already be gone. You come back at about noon because by tomorrow they will have forgotten about it," Ser said softly.
"Remember what I told you three years ago, when you were turning 16?" Kira asked, abandoning her phone.
I chuckled lightly,"You said that on my birthday I was Cinderella. That the Reed's were my evil stepsisters and step mother, and that you guys were my Prince Charming; who came to whisk me away from the wrath of my horrid family. And that today was my day- my ball- and that my fairy godmother made an exception so that her magic won't stop working until tomorrow, not just until tonight at midnight,"I smiled at the memories of all of the birthdays I've had ever since Kira had become my friend(which was seven years ago). "And the other thing I remember is that we always had a great time, and that from 5:00 in the morning to 12:00p.m the next day I could do whatever I wanted; evil step family or not."
"Correct,"Kira smiled wearily, probably just now realizing that it was only 5:00.
We all laughed and at the same time voiced our thoughts,"What should we do today?"
Cassidy's response was,"Let's go to the beach." Kira's was," Let's go exploring." And Serenity's was,"Let's go shopping!"
I thought about it for a second and then decided,"Let's go exploring at the beach-"cue the squeals from Kira and Cass and a whine from Ser,"And later when the shops open up we can do a bit of shopping." Ser squealed and ran to her car. I swear she was the most girly girl I know.
I hate shopping but if we didn't go today then Ser would bother me until we went to sleep at Cassidy's house after playing with Nevada and then again for the rest of the morning until she dropped me off at my house.
Even though we live in Orlando we decided to go to Miami today mostly because Cassidy's sister is coming back from a trip and we're picking her up so she can spend the day with us.
Once Gwen was in the car we headed of to the beach closest to us after picking up something to eat at a Mini Mart that was open 24 hours a day since apparently none of the girls had eaten before they came to get me and I hadn't either.
