Roen POV~
Amory seemed a bit off balanced when we left The Hills. He seemed like he was hiding something. All James wanted was to offer him a good paying job and he took it the wrong way. Hell I didn't even get to get a job. Anyway, maybe if I just talk to him. He didn't say what went on in his household and always kept that for himself. I'm wondering something isn't right, I mean the Payden residence was always kind to people especially those who are close. What could he by hiding? And what was that thing about moving to New York?I drove in my small jeep over to Amory's and knocked on the door. The maid answered the door.
"Hello and you are.,?" She said with a smile.I didn't think they had a maid now. "Oh I'm Roen" I paused, "I'm his best friend, can I go to Amory's bed room?" I said as I walked inside if the house. 'Still the same.' I thought.
"Sure?" She questioned.
I made my way to the hallway and looked at all the baby pictures of Amory and his sister Aimee. It was like a dream childhood. Parents would tell you to follow your dreams and then where would you be? It was like the display seemed so perfect but when the shades came down nobody knew what was going on.
I heard a creak from the stair as I stepped on it and made my way slowly to the door of his bedroom. I opened it and no one seemed to be in here. I sat down on his bed and thought. 'He isn't here so maybe we could search for clues?' which sounded ridiculous but I needed answers. He was my best friend. And how could he not know he is my ride or die. I would support him in everything he does.
The maid walked in and grabbed his dirty laundry and looked at me sitting on the bed.
"Well if he isn't here you may want to come back later?" She said with suggestion.I looked at her and flashed a smile,
"I can't, I think I'll just wait for him I have something urgent to tell him." I said as I smiled toward her.I walked around and by this time nothing was making sense and suddenly I walked over to the other side of the bed and then kicked something. I felt puzzled and bent down in my knees to see what it was. It was just a shoebox. I sighed and then slid it back under the bed. When I went to slide it under the bed a noise came form it something was inside. I was curious and invading my best friend's privacy and I did need answers. I picked up the shoebox and opened it. There was a stack of cash and most of the bills were one hundreds. I felt confused. 'Why would he even hide this much?' I thought. I slid it back under the bed when I heard someone rushing up the stairs. It was Amory.
"Hey what are you doing on the floor?" He asked.
I stood up as I smiled cheesy, "oh," I looked down and ran my hand through my hair, "I was just bored and lied down on the floor a bit." I said sitting there with my legs crossed.
"Well it looks like you were looking for something?" He questioned and looked at me suspicious.
"Okay Amory," I paused, "you got me." I said as I stood up and sat down on his bed.
"I have a few questions." I said adding emphasis on the word few.
"Like what?" He asked confused. "What are you taking about Roen?"
I was nervous at this point. "Like Amory you have been hiding something from me and I don't have a clue of what" I paused, "so I came for answers." I said as I looked up at him.
"Roen," he paused "I was trying to find a time to tell you.." He said sitting beside me.
"I'm just saying I have a lot of questions and don't even know where to start." I paused. He made an expression as if he was shocked.
"Listen, what is that thing about moving to New York you said to James?""Oh I was going to tell you the whole thing" he paused "when the time was right.."
"Just tell me now?" I said looking at him holding my breath.
"Roen," he paused, "on senior sneak." He bit his words, "I was going to leave and just y-you know" he said trying to make it not a big deal "never come back..." He whispered then looked at me with a sorrowful eyes.
I was mortified and managed to keep a straight face. He is my best friend and he is the closest thing I have to a family. Sometimes it's a lot to take in and in this moment I stood up and hugged Amory.
"Why didn't you tell me this again?" I tried not to make it sound as a threat.
"Well" he paused "Roen, it's just I was going to leave you because... You have a life without me" he looked to me with a serious face.
"Wow" I exaggerated, "A life?" I said trying to keep tears from bridging on my eyelids.
"Just so you know Amory," I paused and then looked at him trying not to yell at him. "If you call being abandoned and living homeless for the past eleven years a life..." I started to turn a flustered Red, "then okay" I said gently. He looked back at me and saw me almost tearing up. He came over to try to comfort me. "Listen I know it's a douche move" he said looking at me.
"I don't think you understand Amory" I said this time already calmed down. I swallowed my words. "After my parents passed I didn't want to be an orphan and not only that my own family denied to try to raise me," I told him.
I swallowed and then looked at him, "you're the closest thing to family." I said as I stood up.Amory stood and let out a sigh. "I guess I'll see you," he said with half a whisper.
"I'll get going" I said as I made my way to the door.
I drove back to my foster house and then opened the door, and as usual the big man had already intoxicated himself with four whiskey sets.
"Hey where wet you all night" he said as he looked at me.
"I was here," I said as I tried to avoid him.
"Mark! leave Roen alone" my foster mother belched out to him.
"Just go to your room sweetie" she said as if she was mother.
"Sarah, you're not in this" I heard him say with a deep low voice. He sniffed up some air and took a hold of my wrist and pulled me back. I stumbled a bit and stood up to his face.
"What do you want!" I said with a stare.
"I asked you a question..." He paused where were you last night" he said with his breath smelling like alcohol.
"Mark I answered you I was here at home" I said as I pushed his shoulders back and he wounded and sat down and laughed.
"Roen, go to your room" my foster mom had said as she made her way to the laughing brute.
Not the first time Mark had laid a hand on me. All my time here he beat me only when he was drunk to release what was really wrong. I didn't let him he was just bigger than me. My life is crooked and I still only have one regret.
