Waking up for the first day of school might be a pain in the butt for others, but it's a cherished privilege for me.
I wake up before my alarm. I sprint across my room to go to my classically designed bathroom. "I will make this year beat last year!" I say to myself.
I was on honor roll , I've gotten a 5 for my AP Psychology and AP Macroeconomics exam last year, was president of Key Club, the Debate Team, and helped Mrs. Strovaloni with her birth during my Geometry class. It's seems apparent it's going to be a hard year to compare to.
I rush to my closet, grabbing a red, pleated skirt, a white collared top, a red-and-yellow striped tie, and a cardigan and laying it on my bed. I put them all on while thinking to myself "This will be great for a first impression." The moment I put on my white stockings, my alarm goes off, 5:30 am. Laughing to myself, I grab my book bag and hurried downstairs.
I ate my cereal in a swift-like motion. I, then, stood up and wrote a note to my mom. *Left for school, didn't want to wake you up. Will be home at 2:30 pm.*
I put on my black, shiny flats and headed out the door.
I waited for the bus by reading about hallucinogenics, dopamine effects and a lot of psychological buff. I was deeply immersed by the book and its content. I lost track of all time and by the time the bus arrived, I hadn't noticed I was standing the whole time.
So the bus arrived, I entered in with eyes blaring at me from unsuspecting, mediocre students. Taking a deep breath, I walked through the aisle and sat in a seat with a person with rap music drooling from his earphones. I rolled my eyes and thought 'Earphones are supposed to keep the music in your ear!'. I continued reading until we reached my school, Carthage High School.
Now I know what you're going to say, this is going to be this God-awful story about a nerdy girl in a high school where she finds the perfect boy and happily-ever after
Let me tell you know that this isn't that book.Carthage High School has earned some bad prep. Drug-addicts, pregnant freshmen, rapists and a few years back, a murder. But nevertheless, it has that special aura (and a good AICE program). So I stick with it.
I enter the faded, bleak brick building, I still see the druggies, barbies, jocks and technologists. "Nothing new then!" I say to myself, I enter the main office to receive my schedule."Alaska C. Brycass, ready to receive my schedule ma'am." I said with my usual perky voice.
The secretary gave me a glare, then gave me my schedule.
I grab my schedule, happy with my course selections. (The schedule is as follows:- Language Arts, AVID, Advanced Theatre, AP World History, Geometry and AP Chemistry.)
I sit on the bench outside my first period's classroom, I notice a strange man with white hair giving me a spine-chilling glare. He approached me. My heart raced, there was nobody else in the hallway but me and this dotaged man. I looked at the spot where he walked over to me, but saw nobody there. I was in relief as well as in panic! Why did I imagine him? who was he?
I looked at my psychology book and thought maybe my mind is playing a game of Yahtzee with me.
The bell rings loud and proud. People started filling out the empty hallway. School has officially started.
