The dark eats people

Ever have those times when you catch yourself just staring at what seems like nothing.

Just an empty silent room in the time of sleep.

All you can do is sit there while the darkness consumes you whole.

Some people are afraid of monsters or maybe slowly becoming mad from all the silence.

While I see it as a blanket to keep me safe and warm.

My mind runs wild like a dog that finally can go outside after being in the house all day.

My feeling and thoughts can be free from the cage they have to be kept in during the day.

Although, that freedom can sometimes be destructive, ending in unknown tears that find their way down my cheeks.

The dark can be scary sometimes.

Deep fear possesses your eyes into seeing things that may or may not really be there.

After a while you seem to lose track of time.

Am I still awake?

Did my eyelids finally close or are they still open?

Did I slip into a dream?

The questions mix in with the many thoughts I have built up.

Some words escape from my mouth and I end up talking to myself.

Maybe because I know there's no one to distract me from the matter, or to interrupt me.

My soul claws at my brain for more insight on itself, even yelling at it for the answers.

What do you know about this?

or what does it mean for that?

tell me, tell me, tell me, it would constantly interrogate my brain.

There's things that aren't hard to find,

 not hard at all,

but there's things that could take years to find, or just long gone out of reach.

My body collapses onto my pillow while a sigh could be heard from my lunges ever so quietly.

The air is a little chilly on my skin,

 but I don't mind,

being cold isn't my main concern anyways.

Exhaust takes over my body till I feel dead and unmoving.

That's all for one night, my brain would say and force my eyes close.
