Chapter 6

Chapter 6: Max's House

I gently knock on Zane's door and step back prepared for the door to swing open. I sit there for a few moments. 'I know he's here! He just got back home a few minutes ago! I mean come on, where else would he go?' All of a sudden Zane opens the door with a groan escaping his lips, "What do you need?"

I approach him with a smile, "Zane I have some great news!"

"What is it?" Zane says with an annoyed tone.

"Remember what I said about you meeting my brothers sometime?" Zane responded back with an 'mhm' which made me a bit ticked off but I pushed it away, "Well now is the time! My brother texted me saying that they're at Max's house and he invited me there. He's also keeping it a secret from Max so that we can surprise him."

"How could I surprise him, he doesn't even know me," Zane replied.

I squint my eyes at him and huff, "Come on Zane, it's not too bad to go out there and meet someone!"

He turns away and mumbles words so softly that I could barely hear it, "You don't know that."

My face scrunches up as I scoff, "'You don't know that.' Come on Zane! After Aphmau left I was homeschooled for the rest of the time. I never got out of my house, I was always babysitting my younger brothers while my mom had to work. I also never participated in any outdoor activities which means I basically had no friends outside of my family. Please, Zane, you're the first friend I have made in a long time besides Aphmau."

Zane stood here baffled for a moment before answering with a sigh, "Fine (Y/N) I'll go."

My eyes light up and I run up to him and hug him, "Thank you! Thank you! Let's go!"

"Wait," Zane stops me, "Shouldn't you wear something more comfortable?" 

"Huh?" I blush when I see that I'm still wearing the dress that I wore earlier. I let out an awkward laugh, "Yeah, you mind if we stop at my house so that I could change?"

"Doesn't matter to me," Zane says while stepping out of his house and locking the door behind him.

I smile brightly and grab his hand, practically dragging him to my house.

I quickly put on a regular outfit that I wear before we left or Max's house. Honestly, I didn't think that finding his house would lead to so much confusion.

After yelling at each other for taking a wrong turn or telling the other person that they're wrong, we made it to Max's house. I smiled and quietly got out of the car and shut the door cautiously. On the other hand, Zane got out of the car, not caring if he got caught, and loudly slammed the door. I glared at him but he didn't seem to care. Soon enough he walked past me saying, "Why are you doing that? You kind of look like an idiot you know?" I growl at him and pull him back, "You're going to ruin the surprise if you don't be quiet stupid!"

I let him go and trot to the front door, ringing the doorbell. After a few moments of me and Zane bickering, Lucas opens the door with wide eyes. (Lucas is the second son) I cover his mouth and put my finger in front of my lips before whispering, "It's a surprise."

 Once I step back he nods his head and whispers back, "Well if you're trying to surprise Max, he's in the living room. If you're trying to surprise Dylan, he's in the kitchen."

I smile, "Dylan is the one who told me you all were here so he already knows."

Lucas quickly rushes us in and closes the door before Max calls out to him, "Who was it?"

"Nothing important," Lucas calls back, "No one was there, I was just looking around to make sure."

Lucas swiftly pushes us into the kitchen where I saw Dylan almost choke on his food from the sight of me. I chuckle quietly, "Are you okay?"

He coughs a bit, "Y-Yeah I'm fine, you just caught me by surprise."

I look back towards Lucas, then towards Zane, and then Dylan, "How are we going to surprise him?" 

"Umm," Dylan started, glancing towards the living room, "Well he's watching a horror movie so why don't you just go up behind him and scare him."

My face paled, 'A horror movie? Again!?' "Dylan!" I whisper-screamed, "You know I don't like horror movies!" 

Dylan chuckled, "It's okay he's not going to watch it when he knows you're here."

I look towards Zane, "Don't laugh."

Zane smiles, "No promises."

I let out a low growl and go towards the back of the couch that Max is sitting in. I try my best not to look at the screen as I inch closer. All of a sudden a jumpscare appears on the screen and it caught me by surprise as I let out a high-pitched scream. I crouch to the floor and cover my mouth as Max jumps out of his skin and screams, "What the heck was that!?"

Dylan and Lucas burst out laughing while Zane tries to cover his devious smile. Max glares at them before looking down at me. He freezes for a moment and chokes out my name, "(Y-Y/N)?" I give him an awkward smile and stand up, still shaking. He smiles and runs up to me, swallowing me into a big bear hug. "(Y/N)! It's been so long!" 

I push him back as I try to breathe, "I can't breathe..."

Max detaches himself from me with a big smile painted on his face, "It makes sense that you're the one who screamed."

"Oh shut up," I said, my cheeks warm from embarrassment.

"Did you know she was coming?" Max looks toward Dylan and Lucas.

Lucas shrugged, "I didn't know she was coming until I opened the front door."

Max's eyes averted to Dylan's. Dylan grinned, "I'm the one who told her we were here, I saw her when I was at work today and thought that this was the best time to see you before you leave."

"Ah... yeah," Max said looking towards me with a sorrowful expression, "I didn't tell you but I'm leaving."

"I know, Dylan told me. Dylan also told me that you have a wife. But not only that, a kid!" I said widening and eyes and putting my hands on my hips, "Care to explain?"

Max laughs, "I found the love of my life, Jessica, and we had an adorable baby girl named Mia."

I smiled, "That's nice."

"Now," Dylan interrupted, "(Y/N) is this your boyfriend?" 

He motioned towards Zane making me blush, "N-No! Gross! Why would you think that!"

My brothers laughed as Zane and I stood there in utter shock that they actually thought we were a couple. "Well," Dylan replied, "I was just guessing because he was there when you ordered your (Favorite Pastry). And now he's here, is there a reason he's here."

I sighed and walked up towards Zane, red still painted on my cheeks, "He's just a friend and he doesn't have many other friends except for Aphmau. I wanted him to get the chance to meet new people."

"Oh," They replied.

"Well nice to meet you, I'm Max, one of (Y/N)'s older brothers."

I scoff, "He probably knows all your names by now, you've spoken them like a million times already."

"True, true," Max laughs before continuing, "Would you both like to accompany us for dinner, Jessia and Mia will be there too..."
