The bus pulled out from the station just as I caught up. I knocked frenetically on the window but to my surprise the bus driver took one look at me and decided to leave me looking like a fool. Open-mouthed I watched him drive away shaking his head while mouthing something about today's youth's non existant time apprehencion. I threw my arms out in a dejected gesture and began my walk back to college.
I had been to the town centre for an early study session at the coffee shop, but with my usual luck it had started pouring while I was nibbeling on a breakfast muffin and I realized too late the only bus that went back to campus left five minutes before I could possibly get to the station. So with coffee in hand I sprinted to the station at the speed of light (fact #1: I exaggerate a lot) but missed it with inches. If the bus hadn't started to leave the station I'm sure the driver would've been kind enough to open the doors. Instead I was stuck here under a stall with a ceiling that leaked so the raindrops had no trouble seeking their way down my collar. I huttered when the cold fluid slowly ran down my spine, embracing my every vertebra. I tried to shake the nip off but what was the use when it only kept pouring down from the skies. My dark hair hung down in streaks before my eyes and caused me to almost walk into a pole. From somewhere I could hear music playing. The rain in my eyes made it hard to see anything at all, so I couldn't tell from where it was coming from.
"You look like the kind of person who was raised not to talk to strangers, but could you possibly make one exception and let me give you a ride?"
I gazed up from the ground and squinted when I heard the slow talking man voice. Was the question aimed at me? I looked around but there was no one in sight. So instead I turned my head to the navy blue car that had pulled up next to me. So that's where the music was coming from. A mop of curls was the only thing visible from the passenger seat's window. I couldn't help but feel suspicious.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm heading to Lockport College, you look my age so I took a wild guess and assumed you go there too?"
"What a long shot, considering Lockport is the only college in the area." I rolled my eyes and bent down to have a clearer look inside the car. Which seemed like a very fancy one by the way.
"This might be a little out there... But I'm guessing I'm correct?"
I could see the guy clearly now. His sea green eyes winked at me and he flashed a big white smile with a set of perfect teeth. My legs abandoned me and I had to grab the door handle to not lose foothold. I frowned at myself for my silly action. Jelly knees by the first sight, really? I sighed and discretly hauled myself back up to upright standing. There was no way I'd let him know what a simple smile of his had just caused my body to do.
"Congratulations, you've just earned yourself a stowaway!" I uttered merrily and jumped into the passenger's seat.
"Hey, you know what? That's a first for me!"
