The Final Hope

Chapter 9

A week later I was back with SHIELD.

"Will what did you do to your leg" Simmons inquired.

"I did nothing, it was all Hydra. They were the ones that drilled my bone marrow and let me live" I said.

"Do you mind if we take a tissue sample; with it we might be able to fix your leg" Fitz asked.

"Go ahead" I took off my brace and sat down "so where's Daisy".

"In quarantine. She may have been infected by Hive".

"What's Hive" I asked.

"The parasite that took over Ward's body" Fitz stated "it can control inhumans so steer clear of it".

"I'm not inhuman so it can't control me" I said.

"Well then it can melt your flesh off" he replied.

"He wouldn't. I ran into Stephanie Malick a few days ago and she said that Hive wanted me for something".

"Even more reason for you to avoid him".

"I learned that you can't avoid evil forever, so if I do meet him I can't promise anything" I said putting my brace back on. I headed down the hall and ran into May when the building shook.

"Will is that you" May yelled above the rumbling.

"No" I screamed back. It had to have been Daisy; she must have been under the control of Hive. The lights went out and the shaking stopped. A man ran around the corner.

"Lincoln do you know what happened" May asked him.

"Daisy's infected" he breathed and then looked at me "who's the kid".

"Will Rogers" I answered.

"So you're the kid that Daisy told me about, I'm Lincoln" he said "so you have earthquake powers too".

"Yeah, and I control fire, what can you do".

"I'll show you" we went back into the lab. Lincoln used his powers to restore the power.

"So now what" I asked.

"Now you help clear rubble while we search for inhumans" Coulson said from behind me.

"Oh come on Coulson I can help you search" I stated.

"I know, but I spoke with Gideon Malick earlier and he said that Hive had something special planned for you".

"Coulson let me help".

"You're staying here" he took May and Lincoln and left.

For the next couple hours I helped clear rubble until Coulson got back.

"Lincoln you're not going on the next mission" I heard Coulson say "it's too personal for you".

"I guess I'm joining you then" Lincoln said to me.

"I guess so".

"What'd you do to your leg" he inquired.

"Hydra kidnapped me and tried to kill me my drilling my bone marrow".

"Why does Hydra want you, Daisy never explained that".

"They created me in 1943 using Captain America's DNA, a little over a year ago the Avengers rescued me. Hydra's been after me ever since" I quickly explained.

"Lincoln since you're a doctor could you help us with fixing Will's leg" Simmons poked her head out of the lab.

"Sure, I don't have anything else to do".

"Good, because Fitz and I have to leave" she stated.

"Then what am I supposed to do" he asked.

"Just inject that into Will's leg when the timer beeps" she pointed to a syringe.

"Simmons I can do that" I stated.

"Will last time I tried to give you a shot of pain killers, you flinched away" Fitz stated.

"Fine" I gave up. I knew that I'd never be able to poke myself with a needle.

Fitz and Simmons left without another word.

"So what's with you and needles".

"Hydra didn't exactly give me a warm fuzzy childhood. I went through experiments to get my powers, and then Doctor Doom enhanced my powers not that long ago".

"I think Hydra may have been trying to make you into an inhuman".

"Quite possibly, they just wanted to make someone powerful enough to destroy the world and all the good people in it".

"Is that why Daisy said you hated Ward".

"Oh no, he kidnapped me and took my memories".

"You have problems" Lincoln stated.

"I know".

A couple hours later it was time to see if Fitz and Simmons could fix my leg.

"Ready" Lincoln asked.

"Sure" I nodded. I took of my brace.

"Simmons said that it should take an hour for it to work".

"Great, so I can walk again in an hour".

"Yup".

Exactly an hour passed. I stood up and fell over.

"Hey Lincoln, could you zap my leg. I would set it on fire, but it wouldn't hurt me".

"Are you sure".

"I can take it".

"I'm not so sure about this".

"I'll be fine. If I can survive getting shot, this should be a walk in the park".

"Fine" he shocked my leg. I felt a small jolt, but that was enough for me.

"I have feeling back" I stated.

"Try walking again" he suggested. I got to my feet and moved my leg. I could bend my knee again. I slowly hobbled across the room.

"Hey you're walking" Lincoln exclaimed.

"I know, now I can go on missions" I said.

"Will, Coulson needs you in his office" May said. I followed her.

"We're going to destroy Hydra" Coulson stated "since they've hurt you the most, I want you to hit the button".

"Thanks" I pushed it. The big screen lit up with footage of Hydra bases being blown to bits.

"I thought that that would be more satisfying" I muttered.

"We would celebrate if it was under different circumstances" Coulson said.

A few days later I was home again.
