My mom is making me go to this stupid summer camp, and I'm totally bummed about it. I'm pretty sure that she just wants to get rid of me so she can spend time with her childish boyfriend. He's always getting drunk and then getting into some kind of trouble that she ends up getting him out of.
"Julianna!!! Hurry up and get your stuff packed, we have to leave in 10 minutes!!!" screamed my mom. I'm gonna be gone for 36 days at a stupid camp on some beach in the middle of no where. I don't know anyone who signed up, so I'm getting ready to be in loner mode all summer. I pack a couple of Jean shorts along with all the athletic Nike shorts I own. I'm not big about dressing cute, I'd rather be comfortable and unattractive than cute and stiff. I then pack some tank tops and then my hair stuff and makeup. I hear my mom screaming my name and I know it's time to go. I grab my three bags and head down the stairs.
My mom is waiting for me in the kitchen surrounded by beer bottles. She probably had another party with Brandon (her boyfriend) while I was sleeping over at my friend Paisleys. She starts giving me the whole I'll miss you talk," Julianna!! I can't believe I'm not gonna see you for a more than a month. We will miss you so much!! I don't even know why I signed you up for this camp because I'm not sure if I'll be able to not see you for so long. The tears are coming. I need to quit talking" This whole conversation was major bull crap. I know, and she knows too, that she is so ready to get rid of me. "Let's just go already."The car ride is literally three hours long and it's only been 1 hour. It's so awkward because Brandon is in the backseat talking about how happy he is that I'm leaving. I finally plug in my earbuds and turn the volume all the way up so I can't hear them or even think about the upcoming few hours. I close my eyes so I can focus on the melody of the song. I can feel my thoughts slipping away from me and soon I am fast asleep.
I wake up to Brandon screaming at me to get out of the car. " what the crap. You're supposed to walk me in and get me signed up to the cabin I'm supposed to be in," I scream back. " Sorry. Brandon and I have somewhere to be. I'm sure you'll be fine doing it yourself. See you in a month." See what I'm talking about. Pure neglect. I grab my bags, struggling to make it up the stairs. I walk up to the registration area, ecstatic to set down my bags. I go up to see where my cabin is located. Just my luck, cabin 15, the one farthest from civilization. I ask if they have something or someone to help me with my bags. They send some guy with a buzz cut. I'm guessing he's one of the volunteers at the camp. " Hey there! I'm Josh and I'll be helping you with your bags today!!" Wow, way too perky. " hi, I'm Juliana," I say unenthusiastic. We start waking out of the welcome center. I'm trailing behind because he walks like he has somewhere to be in a short amount of time. I hurry to catch up, but obviously fail. " Um, could you possibly slow down a bit? I'm having trouble keeping up." "Of course!" He says as he smiles. Wow, he has a gorgeous smile, but he's not my type although he is crazy attractive. After an awkward 10 minute walk through the wilderness, we finally make it to my cabin. Exhausted, I say,"Thanks for taking me, but I think I have it from here." "Sure thing, I'll let you settle in but be sure to be at the beach by 7 for the opening ceremony." Ceremony? He makes it seem like we are appointing a queen tonight. I walk in. The first thing I see are bunk beds. Great. All the of the other ones are taken, so I have the last choice of a bottom bunk. Eh, good enough. I find a small drawer to store my clothes in. I decide to change and freshen up because that walk got me sweaty. I take a quick shower and put my hair up in a messy bun. I put on light makeup which consists of mascara and foundation. Then I grab a J.R. Criders tank top, a pair of black nike shorts, and my neon orange tennis shoes. When I come out of the bathroom I see that someone else had arrive. She was a petite girl with blonde hair. She was really pretty with her tan. She looked nervous about seeing someone else in the cabin.
"Hi I'm Julianna!" I exclaim.
" hi I'm Max. "
" Is this your first time at this camp?" I ask her.
She replys," yeah I don't really know anyone here."
" I don't either. So you can stick with me if you like."
Her expression lightens up immediately.
"I would love to! Thanks."
"No problem."
I sit on my bed as she unpacks. I decide to strike up a conversation.
" Why did you decide to come to this camp. " I ask her casually."My mom wanted me to make some friends. I'm kinda a loner back home," she laughed.
"Dude I totally understand. My mom just wanted me out of the house."
We both continue to laugh as someone from the camp directory comes to remind us about the opening of the camp down at the beach. I'm kinda excited to see who all decided to come to this camp. We make our way down the walk way to the the top of the beach. There is a huge stage set up with over 300 seats. I guess this camp is sort of a big deal. Max and I are a few of the first people there, so we get first pick in the seats. Max sits in the first row in the second seat . I'm not really about people paying attention to me, but I follow her any ways. I end up sitting in the first seat so no one will sit by me. People automatically start falling in. Soon all the seats are filled up.
"Don't look now but a total hottie is staring at you. But don't be obvious when you look."
I look over and sure enough there is a beautiful person staring our way.
" He's probably staring at you."
And he probably is. I'm not really anything to look at. I have dark brown hair and blue eyes. I'm not skinny. I'm not wearing anything spectacular. While max is the opposite with blonde hair, hazel eyes, and flat abs. While she is wearing a flirty romper.
" Nope. No way. He is totally looking at you. It's obvious. See, look."
I quickly look over, but Max pulls my head back.
"I said not obvious!" She exclaims.
"Oh" I shrugged.
I look back over there way more casual. We make eye contact as he starts laughing and looks away. He is probably laughing about how ugly I am.
"OMG, he totally thinks you're cute. I mean-" max gets cut off by a loud hello.
We look up and standing in front of us was the guy who lead me to my cabin. What was his name again? Oh, Josh. I thought he was telling us hey, but had a microphone piece intertwined around his head.
"Hi everyone! I'm Josh, AKA the camp director. I'm about to tell you all about the things we will be doing at camp! But first we need to set down the ground rules."
I groan along with everyone else.
"Okay okay. Everyone settle down. Rule one. You may not leave the campgrounds. At all. Rule two. Bed time is midnight. Rule three."
I zone out thinking about the guy beside me. I look over to the mystery guy. He's quite good looking. He's tan with dark black hair and a very good jawline. Sharp enough to cut me. He is also really muscular. He looks over and catches me staring. I play it off my scratching head. I'm such a boy awkward person. He laughs and winks. Oh my gosh. That wink just made my heart melt. I almost fall out of my seat. Was that meant for me? I mean he could have have something in his eye. Or either he could have meant to blink and forgot to close one eye. God why am I so stupid, of course he meant it to be a wink. I got carried away with my own anxiety that when I look up, Josh is done with his speech. Everyone is leaving. I guess I got distracted. Max gets up and taps me on the shoulder.
"Let's go to the dining hall. I'm starving" she says.
It sounds like a good idea. I get up to leave when I take one last look at mystery guy. I don't see him. I already left, but when I turn back around he is standing right in front of me.-------------------------------------------------------
