I woke up to the sound of lighting flashing outside my window
The rain was falling heavy like never before and it sounded like ocean waves as it bounced against my roof. It must be two in the morning. My room was warm, but dark, the only light coming from the lamp from the street and a picture of my dad lay on my desk every since he passed away when I was eight; seven years ago. Everyone said he died in a plane crash, and his body was never found. Did I believe this? No. I could just feel something else happened....but what?I woke up again to the sky being bright and sunny like the storm last night never happened. Strange.
I rubbed my bright green and brown eyes and pushed aside my dirty blonde hair and I got out of bed. As I got ready for school.
I could hear my mom calling that it was time to go. I grabbed by basketball...my safe haven....and ran downstairs. My mom was at the table filling out some kind of paperwork.
"Good morning", she said with a smile on her face.
" Good morning", I replied.
I won't be seeing her until later because she works pretty late and.... I lost my train of thought when I hear a knock on the door. It's Jackson who is my best friend. We walk together to school ever day. I open the door for him. He has a baseball cap on, blue jeans, and a black shirt. He has brown hair and big brown eyes.
"Hey Jess, ready to go to school?" , he says to me.
"Yep", I say.
I grab my backpack and an apple and head out the door into the bright Monday morning.
