Dear Reader,

I'm back! The Selection Team (that's what the group of authors that write this call ourselves, I know we need a better group name) has brought to you, a filler chapter. Sorry that it's not all eventful yet, but in this chapter, there's a lot of "savageness", if you want to put it that way. In the next chapter, "Healer" we're going to give you so many plot twists, it'll be worth writing a filler chapter for. Remember, there's an audio background of instrumental (piano) music that fits with the chapter. The image is just a nice little additional decoration. :)

So sit back, grab a snack or two, and enjoy!

Chapter Eighteen

People say that love can make you blind.

Some people say that love is like a rose, whose thorns haven't been shown.

Even miracles take a little time.

It has been four weeks, and still no sign of Maxon's return. Keahnna has been in and out of different cities, taking part in glamorous photo shoots, promoting whatever she was paid to promote. Valleree left the country just a week ago, heading off to what she kept on calling Sweden. An old country term, was it? I couldn't tell. Chelsey was visiting her family in France and would stay at V's house for the day that she got back from her vacation, so I wasn't completely alone. But I was alone nonetheless. Never in my life have I yearned so much for the commotion, for any type of good old girl gossip.

I spent my days lounging around the Palace. Since Chelsey left the Palace for France, I was left in charge. But without the King, no royal ambassadors of visitors came often. Even work was getting dim. Chase learned how to say a proper sentence, and how to run quickly without falling.

Adelynne was at home with Mom and a few of some close family friends. Every now and then, I'd get the chance to visit Queen Amberly, whose health was keeping her bedridden. I enjoyed mornings reading to her, and sharing some stories of Adelynne. It was enough to see the Queen smile, much more laugh.

But a pang of sorrow struck my heart every time I saw her. She would lay there, staring out the window, watching the sun come up in the morning and start to set in the afternoon. Nurses and doctors came back and forth, giving her treatment, and leaving after their work was finished. It saddened me to see such an influential person, so wise and warm, spend her days alone. I'm sure Maxon visited her every day, but with his absence leaving us all empty, I couldn't bear to think of what Queen Amberly must be feeling. Worry? Sadness?

"Your Majesty, It's me, Maid America." I chimed softly, entering her room. Queen Amberly shifted her head from the window and closed the book that was resting in her hands. "Oh America, it's so nice to see you." She replied warmly, with a smile growing on her lips.

I haven't told her about Maxon and me. What would she think of us?

Taking a deep breath, I shook that thought off and returned her smile.

"I've brought another story. It's another romantic one. The ones that you like." I quickly sat down in a chair placed next to her bed, showing her the book cover. Queen Amberly chuckled sweetly and nodded.

I looked over on her nightstand, a glass of water still full. "My Queen, you must take care of yourself! Stay hydrated and healthy, okay?" I crowed cheerfully, handing her the glass. Queen Amberly gave me a silly look and nodded, taking a few sips of the water. I smiled.
