15 year old, Adeline Peterson, was who you would call the "average girl": smart, pretty, trustworthy, but little did people realize how broken she was. Everyday consisted of the same thing: wake up, deal with the day, sleep, repeat. Having to deal with the daily war in her mind, the family that didn't feel like family, the bullies. All she had to do was play the "I'm fine" card, and everyone believed her. Her daily struggle was her faith. She believed, her family didn't, they wanted her to change, so she decided to hide her feelings about everything. As the days went on, one day, her day went from good, to unusual.
Waking up, Adeline jumped up, realizing she was 30 minutes late, brushed her long hair, quickly did her makeup, and ran to school, considering it wasn't that far from her house, she just preferred to ride the bus. Running to her locker, practically out of breath, she opened it, grabbed her books, and turned around, casually walking to her class. As she was walking, randomly, someone behind her turns her around and hugged her. When the person walked away, Adeline just stared. Why did they just hug her? But, that's all she could seem to think about. When Adeline got home she gave her usual hugs to her parents, walked up to her room, and couldn't stop thinking about that hug. She thought it was so stupid, that something so small was controlling her mind. After that she decided to take a walk to the park, distract herself a little bit; so she went downstairs, asked if she could go, and started to walk down there. Once she made it, she started to head over to the swings.
"God, I need you..." Adeline silently cried out, closing her eyes for a second, and opening them.
As soon as those words came out, everything around her turned black, she was confused and afraid, she didn't understand what just happened, what happened to the park. All she did was just stand there in shock. As she was standing, the black around her turned into fire, the ground was a burning flame.
"Help! Someone help me!" Adeline yelled.
A man came out of a corner, he was no ordinary man though, something just didn't seem right about him "No. No one will save you, no one will help you. You are not worth saving!"
Thinking about what this man just said, Adeline's knees become weak and she fell to the floor, crying, scared.
Out of the corner of her eye, another man comes walking out, a beautiful man, just marvelous. "Get up." The man said and Adeline stands up, shaking.
"Now walk to me."
"You want me to walk into the fire?! No!" Adeline yells.
"You have to trust me." The sentence played in her mind several times, realizing that she could trust this man; something about him was different, a good different.
So, Adeline got up, closing her eyes and took a step into the flame, not feeling anything burning her, she opens her eyes and looks down. The fire under her feet turned to a circle of grass, she looked back at the man, and this man looked back at her and opened his arms, as if to give her a hug."Don't do it! You'll get burnt! He's tricking you" The other man said.
Not listening, Adeline takes another step, again it disappeared, she started to run, she ran all the way to this man, not looking down but straight at him, running into his arms and letting him hold her.
"He's a liar! He's going to push you away!" Again, not listening, Adeline looks at the man holding her, whispers a thank you, and she suddenly felt weak again, so she fell out of the man's arms, and landed on to the floor. Waking up from this day dream, she looks around her, seeing people all around her, and her laying on the ground.
