John's POV
She is way out of my league.
She has an incredible amount of intelligence, I know how to hammer a nail. She is gorgeous, I'm just a buffed up ugly jock. She is so good and kind, my nose has been permanently damaged from the amount of times I've gotten in fights. How did I get such an amazing girl? How did I even get a girl? It was almost unfair how great she was.
Actually, it was unfair.
Such an amazing girl doesn't deserve her boyfriend leaving her after six months. I've tried to calculate how much money I would earn from the business, then how much if I kept a steady job here, but it still isn't enough. Besides, what I had said before to her about this being my family, it was true. It was an impossible decisions to choose her or my family and at this point I was torn.
"So, John," Darius said, snapping his gum. "who's your girl?"
"No one." I muttered, continuing to text her, but with the screen closer to my face.
"She didn't look like no one. Nice body she got. I would love to-"
"Shut up." The fact that I couldn't be up front with anyone about her was awful. I should be able to flaunt my girlfriend, but if anyone knew, Ratcliffe would kill me.
"Don't go there, Darius," Manny shouted from the other end of the hall. "she's probably a mathlete like John, a robot with no emotions. Thinks she is a smart ass-"
"I said shut up!" I stood up, starting towards Manny. "Look," I poked him in the chest. "laugh and make fun of me all you want, but don't you ever talk about her like that. Her IQ is triple yours." I spat.
He ran his tongue over his teeth and nodded. "Well my strength is triple yours."
Before I had time to react, a fist slammed into my jaw and I stumbled back, stars dancing in my vision.
Without hesitation, I sent a fist into his nose.
He touched it and blood appeared on his fingers.
The other guys started yelling, "Fight! Fight! Fight!"
I brought my hands up to my face for protection as Manny did the same.
Some guys pushed us into the middle of the hall and I took his moment of weakness to punch his face twice.
His head jerked back but he quickly wiped the blood and hooked his fist under to get me in the gut, making me fall backwards as the other boys booed.
"Get back up, fool!" He yelled, cackling.
I sprang to my feet and dodged an incoming fist, kicking him in the side.
Soon, we were in an all out fight with no structure at all, like these fights usually had.
It usually went one guy punched another, the other would respond in a punch back, meaning they both agreed to have a boxing or wrestling match depending on the circumstances. It would consist of seven, minute long rounds with breaks in between and whoever lost had to bow every time he saw the winner for a week.
I had a feeling there wouldn't be any bowing.
This was pure fury I was fighting off of, and I think it went the same for Manny too. All I knew, I wasn't backing down and I wasn't going to lose. No, not in Pocahontas' name.
I was on top of him and repeatedly sending my fist into his face when someone yanked me off of him. I writhed in the person's grasp and the crowd went silent as a whistle blew out.
