It had been nearly three days since Judy had last slept.

It wasn't like she physically couldn't sleep, or anything; no, she had thrown herself into her work yet again, just to avoid the dark place her thoughts had been in. They had been for quite some time now, and usually the bunny was able to ignore it.

Last week changed that.

Nick Wilde had gone on a date. Judy hadn't seen any harm in it; he was only her friend, after all, and she was happy that he clicked with someone. He said the date had gone well that night, and the fox he had gone with was willing to go for a second date.

Judy, again, told him he should go.

By the time the third date rolled around, she no longer wanted to hear about how it had gone. The same went for the fourth, and the fifth. Now that he was on the sixth date, she could hardly even look at him.

She let out a groan. What on Earth was wrong with her? He was her best friend; shouldn't she be happy that he found someone he liked? He'd be happy for her if the roles were switched. He wouldn't have to avoid her.

Why did she feel so empty?

Judy really didn't have that much work to do. There had been a significant drop in the number of cases assigned to the ZPD for some reason. But she needed a distraction from her own mind, so she went to everyone and begged them to take their cases. They were more than happy to give them to her, but she made them promise not to mention it to Nick. He would ask her about it, and that would not be good.

*BEEP BEEP*

Judy jumped. Her alarm had gone off, meaning she hadn't slept in 72 hours and now she had to go to work and face Nick. She had been actively avoiding him these past few days, even going so far as to block his number for a while on her phone.

He probably hated her by now.

She slowly stood from her desk, freshening up and getting dressed. She pinned on her badge, splashed some cold water on her face to wake herself up, and headed out of her apartment.

When she got to the ZPD, Benjamin Clawhauser (who was currently slurping a soda) saw her and widened his eyes, calling her over.

"You better be careful when you get in there," he told her, gesturing towards the role call. "Nick's already here. He seems angry." The cheetah glanced her over. "What did you do?"

Judy sighed. "I'm avoiding him."

"Because you love him and he's been going on dates with that fox, right?"

Judy frowned at Clawhauser, and he covered his mouth.

"It's true," he said, his voice muffled behind his hands. As Judy walked away, ignoring the fact that he was correct, her called out after her.

"Don't deny it, girl!"

Nick saw Judy walk in the role call room, and all his annoyance towards her vanished.

She looked so distraught. Her ears were droopy, her eyes bloodshot, her uniform wrinkled. She seemed as if she hadn't slept in days.

She took her seat next to him as Chief Bogo handed out assignments. There still was a lack of cases for the ZPD, so Judy and Nick were ironically stuck doing parking duty.

Bogo was laughing as he told them their assignments.

Nick rolled his eyes and smiled at the chief; Judy, on the other hand, merely nodded and took off towards the door, slipping on the orange vest and the meter-maid hat.
