I woke up on the couch with a blanket tucked around me. Niall was asleep on the floor but I couldn't see any of the other boys. I got up, careful not to wake him before going out to the back porch. Louis and Liam were sitting drinking cups of tea.
"Morning Clary," Louis said, sending me an energetic smile. I couldn't imagine why he was so awake. The sun had barely risen. "Harry's just gone out to the store," he explained. "We're going to make breakfast before heading home."
"Sounds like a plan," I said, leaning against the railing of the porch. I had to admit I felt much better being away from home. There was something about that town that haunted me now because of my parents. I couldn't just leave, though. I had to go back eventually. I went back inside to find Niall rubbing his eyes. "I want you to take me home so I can get my things," I said, startling him.
He took a moment to process what I'd said. "Look at what these people did to you," he said, pointing to my arm. "Move to London with us where we can keep you safe." He added, "I can just buy you some new clothes, whatever you want-"
"I need to go back Niall," I said, interrupting him entirely. "Can you please come with me?" Niall thought for a moment, looking everywhere except at me. He eventually nodded, running his thumbs over the back of my hands.
After a moment, Harry burst through the door with a box of chocolate chip pancake mix. "Help me with breakfast?" he asked me, taking my hand in his. Harry was very flirty but it was in a fun, lighthearted kind of way. I helped him make the pancakes (meaning I made them while he talked), and called everyone in for breakfast.
After about an hour, we were ready to head home. I sat in the passenger seat while Niall drove, and the other boys were in the back. To my surprise, Niall parked in front of my parents' house. "Are you sure about this?" he asked, looking back at Toby who had fallen asleep.
I nodded silently, taking a deep breath before opening the car door. I followed Niall onto the porch. Before he knocked on the door, he gripped my hand in his, giving me a reassuring squeeze. I held my breath until my father opened the door. He smelled of alcohol and he was wearing a stained tee shirt and a pair of torn jeans.
"What the hell are you doing here?" he asked, standing in the doorway. I'd forgotten how he towered over me and I looked up at him like an ant looking at the bottom of a shoe. Before I could say anything, Niall pulled me behind him.
"Clary would just like to collect her things," he said, pushing past my father. I followed Niall closely, sliding past my father. We made our way to my bedroom and I closed the door behind us. "Pack what you need," Niall said. He sat on my bed, his head in his hands. I quickly shoved the rest of my belongings into a couple bags.
"Thank you for this Niall," I said, rubbing circles on his back. He said nothing, just nodding before taking my hand again to get me out of the house. Unsurprisingly, my father was standing outside of the door. Niall shoved his way past him but my father grabbed my wrist, digging his fingers in until I screamed.
"Just let her go," Niall shouted. With that, Toby came bursting through the front door, the other boys not far behind him. Toby pushed my father away from me and Niall led me out to the car. I sat in the back seat, crying into Niall's chest. "Get us back to Toby's please," he said, and Louis drove in silence.
AN - This is most likely the end of all of the violence with Clary's father. I wanted Niall's character to see what she was going through to make his future actions make a little more sense. Most 1D fanfictions include going on tour and everything and in this story, that will not happen. I mentioned the trilogy idea and I think tour will be brought up in a future book. Also, for the future in this book, the town that Clary is from is like a suburb to London. Trust me, that is important.
