(Hiya, guys! Before I start this new chapter, I would like to apologize profusely. I havent updated since May, and I have no excuse. I apologize. To make up for that LOOONG absence, I'm going to try to post pictures of Spot and Snap on my page. I'm sorry they probably don't exactly look the way you imagined! I'm going to TRY.Not to mention, I posted the link to Newsies Got Swag, a GREAT video made by the Broadway cast of Newsies.<3 Without further ado- NEW CHAPTER!)
She slowly opened her eyes, shocked by what she found there.
Spot sat next to her bed, holding a rag full of ice to her head. She blinked a few times, making sure she wasn't imagining him. He hadn't been looking at her when she woke up, but now he looked back over at her, and his face lit up, and his lips tilted into his signature smirk.
"Took ya long enough. I thought you were never gonna wake up." Spot laughed as he said this, but his eyes darkened.
"How long was I out?" Her voice came out scratchy, and she coughed, blushing.
"About two days." Spot shrugged, as though it was completely normal for someone to get knocked out and not wake up for two days. But maybe in Brooklyn it was?
For Snap, however, this was not normal. She shot up in bed, trying to stand up, but Spot pushed her back down. "Woah, woah, woah! Where do ya think you're going? Youse is hurt, and I ain't gonna let you wander the streets at one in the morning."
"Why are you taking caring of me, Spot? Really." Snap looked him straight in the eye, and he broke her gaze, focusing on the ice pack in his hands.
"It's what any decent person would do, ain't it?" He replied quietly.
"Not even the most decent person would stay up all night to take care of someone they supposedly hate. You know what? I don't think you actually hate me."
"Well, aren't you clever?" Spot said sarcastically, meeting her eyes again and shaking his head. "I don't hate you, just so ya know. Even if I say I do, I don't. You got spunk, I like it. There ain't alot of girls like that in New York."
"If I didn't know any better, I would think you actually just complimented me." This time, it was Snap who broke the eye contact, letting her curls fall in front of her face.
"I wasn't kiddin'. No one would ever dare stand up to me the way you do. And I like it. But if you ever tell anyone I said that, you'll find yourself at the bottom of the Hudson. You understand me?" Snap giggled quietly before nodding.
Spot took a deep breath before reaching out and taking her face in his hands and pulling her towards him, taking it slow to give her time to pull away. Just as he thought he had won, she whispered, "No." and pushed against his chest. He leaned back, looking irritated.
"What are you on about?"
"I just want to know what's going on between us. One minute you're being all mean, then you're being gentle, and funny, like you are now. Is there no in between? Or no consistency? Because I'm not willing to put myself through that."
"Look, Snap. This is me. Who I am right now, is who I really am. I just don't know how to deal with a girl I really like. Sure, I got lots of girls who would kill to be with m--"
"Not helping." Snap murmured under her breath.
"What I'm trying to say is that I really like you. Give me a chance?" Spot asked hopefully.
"Fine. You get one chance. And if you screw this up, you'll find yourself at the bottom of the Hudson. You understand me?"
*I really want to apologize for this chapter being so short. At this point, I'm not 100% sure where the story is going, so if you have any ideas, PLEASE comment, and I'll give you a shoutout if I use your idea!
I'll definitely be updating more since I'm back in school, and I cant wait to hear what you have to say!
