Chapter 1: A New Life

"Lillian Avery Anderson, you better be awake!" my mother shouted from downstairs. I chuckled lightly, while I continued to search for my eyeliner in the mess I call my makeup bag.

"I know I put in here. Where is it?" I muttered to myself as I threw my makeup everywhere. I finally found it and let out a victory cheer. The next song on my morning playlist started and I grinned as I began to sing along loudly. Once my eyeliner was perfect and the wings both matched, I swiftly coated my eyelashes in mascara before I stepped back to admire my handy work. My eyeshadow was smoky, making my blue eyes pop, and my dark brown, almost black at times, hair that reached my hips was curled. I danced into my bedroom and headed straight for my closet. As I searched through my very unorganized closet, I found my favorite white lace strapless dress. I slipped it on along with a light wash jean jacket with the sleeves rolled to my elbows. The dress reached about mid-thigh, barely fingertip length. What can I say? I'm 5'10", most dresses are a bit short on me. I added a blue statement necklace and matching earrings. Before I headed downstairs, I grabbed brown strappy sandals with a three inch heel. I checked to make sure my bracelet I always wear was secure and then rushed down to the kitchen.

"Oh, Lilli, you look beautiful!" my mother exclaimed, a grin spreading across her face, tears filling her eyes.

"Mom, don't cry. It's my first day of school, not my wedding day." I chuckled as I wrapped her into a hug and kissed her cheek.

"Yes, but this is your first day of senior year, and as a public schooler." I sighed. Yes, I was homeschooled, since first grade to be exact. It took a lot of convincing to get my parents to allow me to spend my senior year in a public school. I just thought it would be nice to end my high school career in an actual school.

I threw my backpack over my shoulder and grabbed my car keys off the hook before I said goodbye to parents. As I ran out the door, I heard my mom shout after me, "Have a good day sweetheart!"

I hopped into my car, turned on the radio, and headed off toward the school. About ten minutes later, I reached the school, while I hummed along to a Twenty One Pilots song. I pulled into my assigned parking space, grabbed my bag from the passenger seat, and quickly made my way inside. When I entered, I realized I didn't have my schedule out. I stopped to the right of the hallway, so I wouldn't get in anybody's way and pulled my bag around to search for it.

After a few minutes of searching, I came up empty handed.

"Shit," I muttered quietly. I had no idea what, or where, my classes were. With a sigh, I put my backpack on again and went to look for the front office. My phone buzzed and I pulled it out to see a text from my mom.

'Hope your day is amazing! I'm sure you'll make lots of friends! Don't be nervous because you'll fit right in. I love you so much sweetie!'

A small smile rested on my lips before suddenly I smacked into someone, which caused me to stumble back and drop my phone, while they dropped their binder, papers flying everywhere.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" I cried as I dropped to the ground to help them pick up their papers.

"It's fine, I wasn't really paying attention to where I was going," a husky voice replied. After we finished cleaning up his papers, I checked to make sure my phone wasn't cracked and then stood up. I finally made eye contact with the person I ran over, and damn, I was in shock. He had deep green eyes with what seemed like flecks of gold that shone in the light, a chiseled jaw line, and light brown hair the was swept into a perfect quiff. He grinned at me, revealing perfect white teeth and deep dimples. I thought for a second that I'd drop dead right there on the spot. If every guy here was this gorgeous, I would love public school.
