Day One

It smelled awful, like bleach and batteries. I wanted out of this place, my heart crashed in my chest so hard it throbbed. I looked around the dark place and heard a faint humming sound. What is that sound? The guards led me forwards and over to my bunk. They threw me a dark grey shirt and pants, a sign to all the others there that I was new. I haven't earned my black outfit yet. I picked up the thin sheet and rubbed the material with my fingers, it was hard and not very comfortable. Will I die in this place?

Once I was changed and had enough time to look around the place to get further knowledge of where I was, the dark haired man with the scarred hands walked towards me," It's time for you to get your rest, there will be a hard day ahead of you tomorrow." He said in his deep and rough voice. He must've been a smoker, because he gave a cough as he left. I got into my bed and closed my eyes. At least this room doesn't smell bitter, I was almost asleep when I heard footsteps and saw many of the other people my age pile into the dark room and get into their bunks. Most had dark grey shirts like me, I wondered where they got all of these people from, maybe they were all like me and had no family who would miss me. I had my sister but I assumed by her running off she didn't want to see me. Or maybe she saw the men who took me and knew who they were, but how? Had they done this before? It made me think. I had more questions than I had answers right now. That never went over well with me. I tried to shut off my thoughts for the night.

I woke with a groan at the loud alarm on the wall. I hated getting woken up by loud noises, the others around me began putting on their clothes unaware of the people around them. The people in black seemed to dress more robotically than the others. All but one. I began to watch her out of curiosity... I didn't even think about her changing. She began changing, facing away from me. I couldn't avert my eyes. She pulled off her black shirt and her red curls fell on her back in a way that made me want to get up and talk to her. She was so amazing. She pulled on her day black shirt and changed her pants. I'm ashamed to say this but, I was a bit turned on by this. I bit my lip and got up to change into my day grey shirt when she turned around, but it was too late, she'd seen my eyes on her body.

"What are you looking at Number Eleven?" she asked with crossed arms and a raised eyebrow. I wanted to make a sly come back but I couldn't get anything out. I just sat there with wide eyes and my jaw slack.

"I... I... you." I whimpered out and looked to her. She looked like she was trying not to smile. Her face was scolding though her greenish blue eyes showed hint of amusement. Her big, beautiful... No. Snap out of it, I can't drool in front of her.

"Well, you should probably ask a girl her name before you watch her change." She told her and shook her head," No... that's not right, you should probably wait until you know her more before you stare at her." She smiled a little after that. Oh good, she wasn't that ticked off.

"Yeah, fair enough, so what is your name?" I asked her trying to cover up how embarrassed I was and play it off as being cool. I put out my hand to lean against the bar of the bunk bed but missed it and stumbled a little. I could feel the heat in my ears, that was so embarrassing. "I... meant to do that." I stuttered.

"Oh did you now?" She giggled an adorable giggle and stepped closer, leaning her head to my ear and whispered softly," The name is Katrina." She told me, her lips brushed my ear and I felt as if I would melt right then and there. She gave my bicep a gentle squeeze before walking off with a swing to her hips. She was perfect. I pulled on my clothes and followed after her, trying not to run after her. Maybe this place isn't all that bad.
