LAUREN POV

After Italy I asked to see my parents. We were going to go anyways but the new ring on my finger and baby in my uterus meant news. My family would get angry if I didn't share it with them right now. All of my siblings were away doing their own things, so it was just Mom and Dad. Steven seemed nervous the whole plane ride there, I had never officially told them that Steven and I have been dating and now suddenly we were engaged and having a baby! I shared his nerves.

"Lauren!" My mom screamed at the airport running to embrace me.

"Mom!" I said pulling her in tightly, Steven stood back with a wide smile on his face.

"How are you?" She asked her accent thick with tears.

"I'm tired, jet lagged but happy," I replied.

"Glad you could visit," She said bringing me into another crushing hug.

"I see you brought Steven," My dad said, well he was technically my step-dad but he had raised me and I had his last name.

"Oh yeah, I did," I said turning to face my fiance.

"Nice to see you again," My dad said throwing his hand out to Steven. Steven nodded and took his hand.

"Nice to see you too, Mr. Cohan," Steven replied with a warm smile.

"What brings you guys here?" Dad said dropping Steven's hand.

"Visiting, of course! I missed you guys," I replied, my mom finally letting me out of her hug. I went to pull my left hand away but my ring got caught on the lace of her shirt. My mom laughed and we struggled to get my ring away. I pulled and my ring broke free, taking a string of my Mom's shirt with it. My mom laughed again and grabbed the string from my ring. She suddenly froze and looked down at my hand. A hand went to her mouth and she grabbed my own, looking at the giant ring on my finger. Tears spilled down her cheeks. "Mom?" I asked, feeling tears prick in my own eyes.

"You're engaged?" She asked. "Why didn't you tell me!"

"That's why we're here," I said gesturing to Steven.

"Wait, you guys are getting married?" My dad asked.

"Yes sir," Steven replied sheepishly. He had expressed to me that he had felt bad for not asking permission first.

"Congratulations!" My dad said giving Steven a huge hug. Steven laughed and smiled and returned the hug. My mom's face still showed hurt and sadness.

"You never told me that you were even dating Steven," She said.

"It has been all under wraps, Mom. We had to keep it a secret!" I argued, people in the airport started to stare.

"Yeah, but not from your Mother!" She said back. I crossed my arms, if she was upset about me getting married I couldn't even imagine her surprise at my pregnancy. I felt insecure about the bump my stomach now had.

"I'm sorry," I replied quietly.

"I'm sorry, Lauren. I shouldn't have blown up like that. You're just my oldest girl, I'm very protective of you," She replied, giving me a kiss on my cheek.

"I know, Mom," I replied with a soft smile. She then turned to Steven and walked over to him, Steven smiled nervously and wet his lips.

"I'm so happy for you two," My mom said hugging Steven while my dad came over and hugged me. He kissed my forehead.

"No more surprises for your mother, you know how she gets," He chuckled and I chewed my lip nervously. I tucked my cardigan around my middle and laughed.

"No more surprises," I lied.

"Good," He said with a nod while he watched Mom and Steven talk.

"Well there is one but I think we should wait to tell her," I confessed and Dad raised an eyebrow curiously.

"What is it?" He asked.

"I'll tell you later," I said seeing my mom walk starting to walk back with Steven. Steven hugged me and sighed into my ear. I'd have to ask him about that later.

"Well let's head home, I'm sure you kids are exhausted and hungry," My mom said and we nodded.

"Starving," Steven replied. "And I'm sure Lauren is even hungrier than I am."

"Why is that?" Mom asked.

"Oh, I didn't eat on the plane. Wasn't feeling well," I said elbowing Steven in the ribs.

"Oh! Are you feeling better now, love?" She asked and I nodded quickly.

"Much better!" I said.

"Well I'm glad, now let's get out of here," She said with a wide smile.

"Yes, let's," My dad replied, he grabbed my mom's hand and they lead the way to their car.

*At The Cohan's Home*

"It's good to be home," I said with a wide smile. Steven nodded and breathed in deeply.

"I smell meatloaf," He said hungrily.

"Gosh, I didn't realize how hungry I was," I said with a small laugh.

"Well I mean you are preg-" Steve began, I elbowed him again. He gave me a weird look and rubbed his ribs.

"Not now," I said through gritted teeth, he nodded swiftly and walked out to help my dad with the bags.

God, it was going to be a long 3 days. My dad probably told Mom that I had something to share and it wouldn't be long before she got it out of me. It wasn't like it was a big deal or anything, I was just nervous. I'm doing everything out of order and at such a fast pace that it's going to be hard for everyone to keep up. Especially my mom, I'm the oldest. I set the examples and I'm not setting very good ones. It was stressing me out. I cared about what my family thought, I was always so timid as I child and my family gave me comfort. If I didn't have their approval, I didn't have anything.

Thank God, they loved Steven as much as I did or this would be ten times worse.
