I was outside, a Popsicle in one hand, and a fake gun in the other. I was grinning wildly ask I made fake shooting sounds. I was about… five? Six? Maybe even seven… a scream echoed behind me, followed by another scream. I looked back, my house was behind me. All I could think of is that my parents were playing a game. My parents loved games. My mother hated losing though, so my father lets her win, that’s a secret between my father and me. I continued eating my Popsicle while pretending to shoot down fake enemies. I finished the Popsicle and looked up in the sky. The stars came out and the moon was watching me. I grinned and pointed my gun up at the moon, pretending to shoot it down. The air was getting colder, and I was wearing a thin shirt and my pants where worn down, normally my parents would call me in by now; I just figured they lost track of time. I would have kept playing if I wasn’t so hungry. I headed back inside, when I got there, my parents weren’t even there. They would never just leave me home alone, I was searching for some food, nothing. I picked up a knife and looked at it in awe. I slaughtered a fake enemy, but a voice talked from near the door I came in at.
“What is a little boy doing with a knife?” The voice sounded dark, and scary. I looked over to the source to see a man in a long cloak, his face looked stern and his hair was cropped to his skull. I slowly crept back with the knife in my hand, next to my side. The man gave me a slight smile, looked more like a smile a fox would give when it’s trying to convince it’s pray that the fox wouldn’t eat it. I knew the fox would eat me though… slowly; the man pulled something out of his pocket. It was a white handkerchief, he slowly walked up to me, and I continued to back away. This fox seemed to get inpatient and pounced on his pray, but I put my arms up to protect me. Luckily I still had the knife in my hand so it went right through the fox’s stomach. He backed up and yelled in pain, I let go of the knife as the man stumbled back, the knife was bloodied to the hilt; blood seeped from the man until he fell over, and died. I felt my face lose all color, and my green eyes widened. Another white handkerchief made its way around my mouth and nose, it had a strange smell to it, and slowly darkness crept up on me and I passed out.
I woke up, and opened my eyes, but I couldn’t see. Something was around my eyes, and I was moving. Well, not walking, but in a boat, or a carriage, or SOMETHING moving. When the movement stopped, the thing around my eyes was removed, and a man stared at me. I looked back. This man had a kinder face, not like the foxlike man. I didn’t recognize him though. He smiled warmly at me, I must have looked scared because he soothed me like a mother would if her child was sick.
“Don’t worry, we’re home.” He said in a kind voice. It did calm me down, but where are my parents? My legs and wrists were bound together, I couldn’t even sit up. Another person, I think female, picked me up by my bounded arms and dragged me to a large building. I heard clanging and grunts and screams of pain from the inside, and the back, of the building. When I was dragged inside, a sudden rusted iron-like sent hit my nose. It smelt disgusting. The woman took me down a hall; all I saw was dark red splotches on the dimly-lit walls. I was thrown in a room, redness stained the walls, and it seemed to be the room that made the gross iron-like smell, it was a small room, what was not stained with red was gray, and chipped, a man with the same cloak as the one that the knife went through, but his hood was up. I wonder if that guy is alright… the figure spoke to the one who carried me here.
“Marha, unbound him.” I heard a clanking and a soft click on both my legs and my wrists, and I could move my legs and arms freely. Marha left the room, locking the door behind her. I stayed sitting on the floor, looking at the man; he was about three strides away. He stood up and grabbed a sword he was hiding underneath him and threw it to me. The sword clattered next to my sprawled out feet. The man picked up another sword, both were bloodied. I had no idea what was going on.
