Between Our Worlds

Prologue

PROLOGUE:

There was a time when Earth and Ardeus were one. The people of each world prospered as they worked together, crossing portals between worlds as easily and as often as we cross the street to reach destinations today. The Humans and the Ardeans shared the magic of the worlds, enjoying each other's company and friendship. However, like everything, there was a good side and a bad side to the magic. One day, a greedy Human by the name of Jax Craven led an uprising against the Ardeans, demanding that the Humans be allowed to keep all of the magic in the worlds for themselves. He claimed it was unfair how the Ardeans commanded a majority of the magic, while Humans could hardly perform silly tricks, if that.

In response, the Ardean rulers quickly closed all portals connecting the worlds and cut off communication to the Human world. They feared more for their power than they cared the prosperity of the lands. This left the Humans in an uproar. Many Humans tried to open portals for themselves, and always ended up killing themselves in the process. The Human magic was just not strong enough to perform like the Ardean magic was able to. Then Jax Craven had an idea that would change the race's history forever.

He mined two identical crystals and gathered all of the magic in the human world into each crystal. One held all of the good magic of the world, and it turned a soft pink, its rosy glow a cheerful sight. The other held all of the dark magic, magic used for evil purposes or created out of evil, and it turned a purple so deep it looked almost black. The product was unsettling, and inflicted fear into the hearts of those who viewed it. Jax Craven kept the stones and guarded them with his life. He used them to rule the Human world cruelly and totally. By that time, the Ardeans had gathered their forces enough to release an attack on the Human world, aiming to capture the crystals. Sometime in the resulting battle, it was discovered that Jax Craven had been killed.

But when they located his body, the crystals were nowhere to be found.

This is just a teaser for now, because I'm working on my other story, Sold My Soul. If I get a good enough response, I might decide to continue this story though ;)
