The 'Last' Lecture

Seasonal or Life-Long?

  I was never the type of person that had or wanted a lot of friends. I have always preferred to stay within a small group and to myself. I also never had a reason to think differently about my friends and I being together for a lifetime. But things don't always go the way you want. It first happened with my old best friend Rebecca. We met when we were in kindergarten and became very close friends but then she moved when we were in fourth grade. I was sad that she had to move so far away, but I assumed we would still be friends. It took only a few months for our friendship to go to ruins. (We saw each other every so often and would start talking again but it never felt the same.) The next friend to go was Grace. Grace and I became friends very suddenly, and we got along pretty well. Then came Jasmin. Jasmin, Grace, and I were all close friends, but Jasmin never did like Grace very much. That's probably why everything went wrong one day.

  Both Jasmin and Tylynn (new friend) came over to stay the night one day. It started off well, we first were watching movies then we went on Facebook. (We shouldn't have gone on Facebook.) I had earlier posted something on Facebook about some conflict I had with someone else and it had gotten a comment. The comment was from Grace, she had asked what happened. Well, I'm not exactly sure on why Tylynn and Jasmin were irritated (it might have to do something with the post) but when they saw Grace's comment they blew up. They had replied to her rudely and cussed at her for being 'nosey', it ended up getting so bad that her mom had called my mom in the middle of the night. It's an understatement to say my mom was only angry. She was furious, just like in cartoons I really thought smoke was going to come out of her ears!! But we didn't get in as much trouble I thought were. All we had recivied was a lecture that Jasmin and I will always remember.

  She had told us that as we go through life we will continue to meet new people and make new friends. And with that comes the awareness of acknowledging who will be a seasonal or life long companion. Just as it is stated a seasonal friend is someone that is around only for a certain time then leaves. While the life long friend is the one person that stays with you for your whole life. 

So far I have found only one life long friend. Her name is Jasmin. She has been by my side for seven years. She has always been the one I would go to when in trouble, and vice versa. There has never been a day that I ever wished I had never met Jas. She is someone I know will always be in my life and I'm thankful for that because without her I wouldn't know what to do with my life.
