Off With Their Heads

Chapter 15

Hours had gone by agonizingly slow but the Queen still hadn't moved or spoken. The only sign that she was even alive was the constant glow of her eyes and the slight rising and falling of her chest. The Hatter had provided everyone with a nice cup of tea and a sweet cake. He, like everyone of the council present, cared for both his Queen and her son. He would hate to see any one of them hurt or dead.

So to keep all of the others, including the Avengers (who seemed quite uncomfortable with all of the unusual people present. Specifically the Cheshire Cat who they discovered could talk), the Hatter kept them entertained with the ideas of wonderful unbirthdays. The other people, and animal, of the council knew what the Hatter was trying to do and played along with it, especially since the Hatter could be a very emotional person when it came to the people close to him.

As everyone was talking and drinking tea, a sharp intake of breath caught their attention. They jerked their heads around to face the throne and saw that Evangeline had moved. He eyes no longer glowed and she was looking at something behind them. They all turned around to see a blue wisp floating in the middle of the room. 

The council breathed a sigh of relief, while the Avengers remained tense. 

The blue wisp was part of the Prince Malakai's power that he had inherited from his mother. When he was crowned, he would be called the King of Clubs. 

Evangeline ripped her hand forward and a red wisp ensnared the blue one, pulling it closer to her. Ever so slightly she tilted her head to the wisp. The wisp made a sound that everyone identified as whispering. 

The Queen let out a huge sigh of relief. Her son had contacted her, insuring that he was indeed safe and sound. The Queen of Diamonds, or the Duchess, had not harmed him in any way,

She relayed the message to the others and they all let out a cheer. Natasha came forward as Evangeline descended her throne and clapped her on the shoulder.

"We'll find him" She said, and Evangeline nodded, determined to get her only child back.

For the first time in hours, she spoke, "We will. Thank you guys for being here. I am going to go to bed, my mind is still wandering about." 

The others nodded, and they dispersed almost as if nothing had ever happened. Sebastian had made a portal to the Avengers Tower and they all went through. Before Sebastian did though, he looked back at the Queen, who was looking down at the small cat plushie in her hand. He knew something was bothering her but he didn't want to burden her even more with questions. So with a sigh he too, followed.

And he was right. The Queen was hiding something. She had heard something in Malakai's little message that bothered and worried her greatly. 

Alice was there.

And she wanted revenge.
