Chapter 1

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP

I turn over onto my side and groan as I look at my alarm clock beside me.

5:45

Ugh, why must I wake up so early? Oh yeah...soccer practice. As I flip the switch to turn my alarm clock off, I swing my legs across my bed. After contemplating whether or not I should fall back asleep or get ready, I decided to get out of bed. I slug into my bathroom en suite and splash my face with some cold water. As it hits my face, I instantly feel awake and refreshed. I pat my face dry and walk back into my room. I pull open my drawers and grab my cardinal blue and white Falcons jersey as well as a pair of practice shorts and put them on. I grab my soccer bag and place my outfit of the day in the bag. A white v-neck tee paired with dark skinny jeans, and my signature choice of shoes, black converse. Once my bag is packed and ready to go, I grab my bag and backpack and head downstairs. When I reach the bottom step I hear my stomach let out a huge grumble and decide that skipping breakfast would not be a very good idea. So I walk over to the pantry and grab out a cookies and cream power bar before grabbing my car keys and walking out the door.

My car is my most prized possession. After the hundreds of little kids I had to babysit and endless hours spent working at the local coffee shop, The Steamin Bean, I was finally able to afford my dream car. A baby blue convertible bug. With my family's finances being constantly being spent on my sister's medical bills, I knew that working for my car was the only way I was ever going to get it.

Unlocking my car and placing my bag on the passenger's seat next to me, I sat down and took a deep breath before starting the car.

"You can do this Dylan, it's just another day at practice." I told myself.

Soccer has always been my place for escape. Escape from the whirlwind I call my family.

************************************************************************************************************I remember it like it was yesterday I was 4 years old and my parents brought me in to the living room...

" Dylan..." my Dad said to me, " you are going to have a little sister."

"A sister," I shrieked," This is the best day ever! Can I name her , PLEASE!"

My father chuckled," sure sweetie of course you can." he said.

I remember that my mom and dad would take me to my best friend Ryan Wilson's house whenever they had a doctor's appointment. We would laugh and play until my parents picked me up.

One day in particular I had this strange feeling in my stomach when my parents left me with the Wilson's. But I covered it up and played with Ryan until they picked me up. When I got to the car, I noticed that my mom's eyes were all puffy and red and that my Dad had his hand protectively on her knee.

"What's wrong mommy?" I asked inquisitively.

She sniffed and rubbed her eyes before replying, "Oh nothing honey, everything's ok."

But the thing was, everything wasn’t ok... Everything had changed.

As I pulled in to the field's parking lot, I took a deep breath, so excited to finally start practice after a long summer break. I put my car into park, grabbed my bags and got out. As I approached the gate to the field, I noticed a sheet of paper tapped up. As I read a wave of worried washed over me, as I thought to myself,

"What happens now?"
