As class came to an end the bell rang pretty loudly for lunch and I started heading to the cafeteria after packing up my notebooks and binders. "Hey Matthew!" A voice called from behind me. "Hey dude wait up!" They soon caught up to me and I turned to the voice. Josh, a childhood friend, he's such a free spirit, such a surprise, given his past. "Hey, you ready for the test today?"
I tilted my head a bit. "What test?"
Josh laughed a bit and smiled, "The Marine Corp test. I heard you were gonna do it today along with everybody else. That's nice to know, so are you ready?"
I made a grimace and shook my head. "Josh do you believe what everybody says around school? Like seriously? Do you?" I asked him with a stern tone that seemed to make him falter in stance and personality which made me laugh and I patted his shoulder. "Of course I'm ready, I didn't study all year for this test for no reason. Are you?" I chuckled.
"Y-yeah I am. I can't wait to see you later today." He smiled. "I wish you the best of luck my friend." He patted my back gently and I returned the gesture.
"As do I little mouse." I grinned and laughed once more.
"Shush." He glared as he stuck his tongue out.
I chuckled at his childish gesture. "Plus, I kinda wanna follow in my dad's footsteps."
"Wait, you haven't seen your dad in like 6 years right?" He tilted his head a bit to the side.
"Yeah, but someday he will be home. I hope." I muttered the last part as I started to walk again until I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Hey wait...I'll go with you. But walk me with to my locker." Josh smiled and I nodded. "Cool, plus... I got some interesting stuff to talk about that you might find fascinating." He grinned which made me chuckle.
"Okay bird brain let's see what you got."
"Okay so I heard from a little birdie that NASA and the Government found something sick in Outer Space. It's not just random piece of junk either but it's not some massive spaceship, which sucks that it isn't but you know."
"Well if it ain't some spaceship then what could it be that would be so cool?" I laughed a bit.
"Honestly," He grabbed my shoulder and forced me down a bit to his height and he started to whisper, "I heard that it's an 'Alien space colony'. He soon let go and we began walking to his locker which wasn't far, or at least not really far.
"Wait what?" I said in slight disbelief. "Doesn't make sense, how do they even transport an entire colony with no ship?" I asked a bit too loudly, making a few people stopped in their tracks and gave me a weird look making Josh shush me.
"Listen, I don't know what it is, or when we will see it but I think Earth is gonna be under attack." He said in a low whisper.
"Mm... Let the military deal with it." I shrugged, if we were really under attack I would have actually cared to protect Earth. No matter how messed up we are.
"You're no fun." He sighed then chuckled. "Not what I mean though Matt. It's.... Crazy. What if it actually happens?"
"I don't know man, I don't think it would happen though. I mean you're talking about aliens bro. I don't know. I'm sure the United Nations would be all over it and start to protect Earth. For whatever costs of course." I shrugged as we both came to a stop as we arrived at Josh's locker.
