My Shadow

My Shadow 1

Today is the day and as per usual its dismal and gloomy; dark even. I could feel from a mile away, it catching up; that is; my shadow of course. It seems to follow me every where,never leaving my side for too long. In many religions this feeling of someone in the shadows following you would have been seen as a demon or guardian angel. Well mines  is definitely not a guardian angel and demon would be too nice of a name for it. The worst thing about it is that, it always take the one thing I wanted the most,the only thing that gave me a sense of belonging. A family. I was placed in the foster system from I was around 6 months old. I was that young. A family adopted me. It was a very wonderful family and I fit in perfectly. I lived with them upon until I was 12 years old. The reason I'm not with them anymore is because that's when the shadow came. I shook my head trying to stop myself from about the shadow.

I sat on the bed starting out the window on the dark clouds waiting impatiently on my new family to arrive. All I was told is that it was a family of 4.They had two kids, a girl and a boy. I was now 15 years old and I've been moved to three foster homes since I  was 12. I had thought that maybe it was best if I just live in one of the children's center rooms upon until I was old enough to leave and live by myself then I wouldn't hurt the people that are kind enough to adopt me. The people that loved me dearly even though  we aren't related and who cared for me without a price. No one would get hurt then, I've always wondered what had I done to the person who is tormenting me for them to be punishing me so cruelly. There was a single knock on the door and I knew that was the signal that the family has arrived and I should go downstairs to waiting halls to meet them. I sighed and took up the small bags I had with my things. I walked slowly down the stairs and down the small lobby and I could see the family waited. The woman had brown hair, medium height, the male looked Mexican and he was really tall. His hands was around the woman's waist and they looked so happy and my sunk. The things that are about t happened to them in a few months wouldn't be pretty. I didn't want to ruin another prefect little family. The woman looked up and saw me, she smiled at me and her smile sent chills all over my body . She was so beautiful she almost seemed fake.The rest of the family followed her eyes and landed on me. It was then I'd noticed the others. Their son whom looked around the age 14 was smiling brightly at me and the smaller child, a girl, whom looked about age 5 was bouncing about. They were all smiling and it  flashed before my eyes them covered in blood and tears. Those smiles will all be gone. I sighed , I really wish things were different.

I smiled back at them, has indeed I'm happy that the family I'm about to be with looked happy enough to meet me. I walked slowly over towards them. Has I neared them, the man walked forward and took my bag.

"Hi, I'm John Williams and this is Sandra, Kevin and Abby." He says.

"Hi I'm Jada Daniels." I introduced myself. They were smiling widely and I felt awkward .Abby took my hand and lead me towards the car . My mouth hanged open, I'm pretty sure these people are rich. The little tugged on my hand and I continued walking. I open the  car door and she went in and I went in behind her. When they were all in the man drove off and the car ride felt awkward. I'm awkward it seems because everyone looked alright.

"So Jada tell us about yourself." John says.

"What would you like to know?" I asked.I'm not a shy person just probably a little antisocial.

"Well what's you're favorite color?"

"Do you like dolls?"

"You play sports? If yes what's it?"

"Shopping?" They all blasted questions at me.

"Wow! Well my favorite color is purple, yes I like dolls and I'd play with you if you want me to," I say to Abby, I turned my attention to Kevin ," No but I'd like to try soccer. It seems cool."

"You forget to answer my question Jada" Sandra added.

"Oh yeah. Sorry, shopping is alright." I answered with a smile.

"Great we are going to have a blast. I can't wait." She says enthusiastically  and I couldn't help but smile with her. The rest of the ride was quiet and comfortable. When the car came to a stop and I looked out the window, I was astonished. The house huge and beautiful. How rich are these people? I got out of the car with my mouth wide open and I looked around.

"Woah!!.." I say out loud.

"Yeah that was my expression too." Kevin says and I looked at him confusingly. Is he adopted too?

"Yeah I'm adopted too." He answered.

"Did I say that out loud or..?" I asked

"No I just knew you were asking that question in you're head." He says.Is he a mind reader or something?

"No I'm not." He says. I squinted my eyes at him.

"Your sure I'm not saying things out loud?" I asks while walking towards the front door.

He laughs, " No you're not, but I can just guess the questions in your head." I squinted my eyes and entered the house. Inside was just as beautiful as the outside.

"How rich are these people?" I asked Kevin.

"Eh. Filthy." He answered.

"Honey let me show you to your new room. It's not finished as yet though because we didn't know what color to paint it in. " She says and I walked quickly up the stairs behind her. We walked down the never ending hall and when we finally at a white door. She opened it and when we entered, It was the biggest room I've ever owned. This  could hold at least three beds and I'd still have space to move about.

"You like it because if not we can get it done the way you'd like." She asks

"It's nice I like it." I answered. I would be ungrateful if I didn't like it. She left and I laid down the bed. Oh my god. So comfy. I haven't felt anything this soft in a long while. I really like them, they are a very nice family and I'm about to enjoy the little time I have with them. Until the shadow crept back up.
